Just a friendly reminder that we also had old school Canadian tennis champions before social media! Pictured here is Marjorie Blackwood, much like Bianca Andreescu now who is our #1 Canadian; Marjorie was our best back in the days. When competing at the Australian Open in the 80's she had match point against Tracey Austin who at that time was #1 in the world. Despite seeing the chalk fly up in the air (at that time the Aussie Open was played on grass therefore the lines were chalk meaning that Marjories ball was in) the umpire over ruled it and called it out. Unfortunately no instant replay back then and Marjorie lost the match. Regardless, she was and still is a tennis icon and inspiration to new and old players and coaches....thanks Marj!!!!
