Our Madagascar Vanilla is ready! The Mason jar on the left was bottled today, and the one on the right is after nine months (ready to be put into containers). Just two ingredients, Vodka and Grade A Bourbon Madagascar Vanilla beans. I tested it in cookies and my morning coffee. #vanillaextract #canadianhomesteading #murraymasonmeadows

After booking off work early, having a nice late lunch together, a ride around the property is a great way to unwind. Looking forward to a fire.

Fresh parsley and hot peppers!

Planting music garlic into a hugel kultur and a layer of wood chips raised bed seeded with cover crop (mustard and rye). It’s the shotgun approach. It’s the hugel cover crop eden method. Oh yeah, we’re going to put hay on top of it too. Wish us luck. We’re pretty serious about growing garlic here.

We made stewed tomatoes on the weekend. I dehydrated the skins and seeds and made tomato powder. Just finishing up the pulverizing. I think this will be a great addition to make herb blends for cooking.

Look at the surprise waiting for me today when I watered the garden! I was hoping to get another look at the flower, but it had other ideas.

Making relish today!

Drying five racks of sage today. Going back outside to harvest then dry some summer savoury.

Today we trimmed the garlic and made some wine (Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon).
