Today I had the pleasure of learning about the Indigenous Youth Internship Program from one of this year’s participants, Ali Lafond (Muskeg Lake Cree Nation). We were joined by one of my staff, Leslie Loubert (Musqueam), who is also a graduate of the program. The BC Public Service Agency provides a 12-month paid internship for young Indigenous British Columbians, ages 19-29. The purpose is to help Indigenous youth build professional skills and networks, get a taste for pursuing a career in government and Indigenous organizations, and above all, awaken their capacity for leadership. It is an opportunity for young people who want to make a difference and to lead their communities and the province into the future. It’s such heartening news to see many rural and remote First Nation communities across BC begin receiving COVID-19 vaccines. At-risk communities that have experienced an outbreak or cluster during the pandemic are also being prioritized. Public health, the First Nations Health Authority and Indigenous leaders are all continuing to work together to ensure the vaccine gets into the arms of those most vulnerable to COVID-19 as quickly as possible. We all must remember to continue to do our part to keep ourselves, our loved ones and communities safe by following all public health guidance. https://www.cbc.ca//first-nations-in-bc-among-first-to-get
