They both have a differing relationship with their identity, which also resonates with the way they connect with food. We discover the significance of dairy foods in the writings of Sholem Aleichem ("Tevye the Dairyman," the inspiration for "Fiddler on the Roof"), and how milk, above all, offered a taste of paradise for many Jewish immigrants in North America throu...ghout the nineteenth century. Starting tomorrow through November 29th, Poland’s alternative Jewish arts collective, FestivALT is launching The Lucky Jewathon - a three-day non-stop durational interactive performance event. The Lucky Jewathon is a response to the popular and controversial motif in Poland of buying and selling caricatures of Jews counting money. It is believed that these objects, often paintings or figurines, will bring its owner economic luck. For 72 hours, 18 guests from around the world... will talk about these Lucky Jews and the themes it ignites. Hosts will include academics, artists, anthropologists, journalists, community leaders and politicians from around the world. The event will play host to panels, conversations, DJ sets, film festivals, music, art experiments and more. Pour yourself a coffee or a glass of wine (depending on which hemisphere you are in) and join us on Zoom where you are invited to participate. Apply today to receive seed funding to help bring your innovative project ideas to life! Each microgrant project should include a live event component. This can include: speaker panel, artist talk, book reading, workshop, performance, or concert.
