This is definitely one of the payoffs of being a piano teacher. My former student Thomas Iverson made a wonderful recording of this classic Christmas song. Thanks for sharing your music with us Thomas!!
Just putting the finishing touches on our Halloween song. Some of the songs written by students this year are really creepy!!
Hello Everyone! I’ve had a few people wondering how the Skype lessons are going and thought it would be a good idea to post an update. The short answer is: GREAT!... Sure, things are different, but not as different as one might imagine. During the online lessons, both student and teacher are very focused by necessity. The limits of online communication mean that we have to concentrate harder to receive and send our thoughts and feelings. This extra concentration pays off in a more targeted and goal-oriented lesson, resulting in improved learning. This improvement is further accelerated because students now have more time to practice. Weekly lessons become a time where we look forward to connecting and checking on student progress during the week. This gives structure to our lives. When we are making music, the cares of the world just seem to melt away. The music takes over and gives us a mental break that is most needed right now. Stress is washed away, at least temporarily and students realize that, when this pandemic is over, they will emerge with an enhanced set of skills and the confidence that their time was well spent. Looking ahead, we are starting to make preparations for the student concert. I am really looking forward to the theme this year: Canadian Artists. I will have more updates for you soon!
At Music Lessons Vancouver we are happy to report that the current COVID-19 crisis has not gotten in the way of our students’ ability to take regular music lessons. It is still teaching as usual, but with a little twist..we have successfully adapted our lessons to Skype. For years, Skype lessons have been a part of what we offer. But, as of today, we have converted all our lessons to Skype. In this way, we can support the social distancing measures necessary to protect ou...r collective health without sacrificing the quality of the programs we offer. Times are tough but we can still make every day count. Music lessons are an ideal way to do that. Students can take advantage of their extra time at home to greatly enhance their musical skills. Perhaps even more importantly, learning to sing and/or play an instrument creates a positive focus which can protect mental health in these uncertain times.
Christmas present from our last student of the year today. We're not waiting until Christmas day to enjoy this. :)
Teaching on Halloween, I was expected to wear a costume. Quite fittingly, we were working on some blues.
This year’s concert took place once again at St. James Community Square. The main theme of the concert was "Movie Music. There was a wide variety of music performed. It was fun hearing about the different films and then seeing a song performed from that picture. The photos below are a sample from the many performances at the concert.... We had such a great time at the student concert last night. Everyone played so nicely. I will post more photos soon! Photo by: Evelien Voorberg

What a beautiful day for playing music in the garden!! If you are visiting VanDusen Garden, be sure to play a tune on their piano. :)
We are having A LOT of FUN preparing for the concert this year! The theme is "Songs from Movies"! We hope you can join us!
