Once, in a Lullaby

Looking for a place to donate for Giving Tuesday? Please consider the fund we created to bring music therapy to the NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto!

Wondering what happened with that fundraising CD I created a few years ago to establish a music therapy program in the NICU at Mount Sinai? As you may recall, music therapy can help babies with breathing, eating and many, many other things: they even go home earlier. And bonding which is so important but can be so difficult, is supported by music therapy. Parents also need support, so much support, and here is a way to get it (many music therapists in Ontario are also Regist...ered Psychotherapists and provide Music Psychotherapy). Well, the money from the initial push has been sitting in a high interest account, growing slowly (added to when I sell another CD), and waiting while I figured out the best way to handle things/ discussed the best way to donate it all with the hospital etc. In the meantime, Mount Sinai's NICU got a first taste of music therapy: an internship program was established in 2017, and I was incredibly honoured to be the first music therapy intern, the first representative of music therapy in the entire hospital! (did I mention that this whole experience inspired me to drop my old career and go back to school for my Master of Music Therapy degree?) And it has kept going with another amazing intern this past summer. But that's not enough!! These babies (and their parents) can and should be helped by music therapy all the time, not just a couple of months in the summer! So, here we go: another push. The money from the CD's has been passed to Mount Sinai and directed to NICU music therapy. They have kindly opened a directed fundraising account so that my friends can donate if they wish and it will go directly to this program. CD's are still available (just message me if you want one and we'll figure out how to get it to you). While you are at it, please like the Once, in a Lullaby page, and share widely! Thanks everyone!

It's World Prematurity Day! Here is the video of me and Audrey singing Lullaby for a preemie (aka my Brahms lullaby with assorted English words, written/ assembled by me), and some photos of A as a tiny babe. I still have some copies of the CD by the way :)
