Music at First Met

Each year the congregation of First Metropolitan United Church pauses to remember. Through music we celebrate and dedicate our hearts, minds and souls to honour the love of those who have gone before, are with us now, and who will come another day. This year's event, featuring our choir, choral scholars, and musical friends, will be held on Sunday, November 3rd, 2:30-4:00 Doors open at 2:00. Admission is by donation. All proceeds go to support our choral bursary scholars.... Please join us as you are able.

It's not happening at First-Met, but one of our active First-Met musicians is performing with this dynamic group. And so, we are happy to help our friends at First Unitarian Church of Victoria get the word out. The theme may be "The Wedding?," but the music is the second of Claude Bolling's iconic Suites for Flute and Jazz Piano. Remember those from the min 70s? True to the theme and to the title, this second suite, like it's more famous older sibling, marries classical flute and jazz piano trio in a rollicking hours that could not be a better definition of "ebullient" if it tried.

Summer doesn't slow down for Music at First-Met! Join us on June 16, 2:30 for a rare treat -- an afternoon of music featuring our friend, violist Guyonne Le Louarn and our Director of Music, pianist Kelly Charlton. Together the pair will perform two of the great sonatas for viola and piano, that by Ernest Bloch and that by Rebecca Clarke. You should know that both works were written 100 years ago in 1919 and for the past century controversy has raged: which is the greater of the two. Performed here, back to back, you will have the opportunity to make that decision for yourself. In fact, we'll even take a poll when the music has finished. Or just come and enjoy these wonderful works, each beautiful in its own way.

Inspiring music from Pringle Ringers and Sanctuary Choir for Palm Sunday 2019.

The Sprague High School Choir (Salem, Oregon) is coming to First-Metropolitan United Church. This choir holds more awards than can be easily counted, and this is their only stop in Canada. Help us give them a warm Canadian welcome by joining us for a special concert by this group: 3:00-4:00 on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 in the Sanctuary of First-Met United Church. Admission by donation in support of the church's choral bursary fund.
