Meet our Instruments! Here are 3 fun facts about a Double Bass: The double bass stands around 180 cm (6 feet) from scroll to endpin.... Like other violin and viol-family string instruments, the double bass is played either with a bow (arco) or by plucking the strings (pizzicato). The double bass is generally regarded as a modern descendant of the string family of instruments that originated in Europe in the 15th century, and as such has been described as a bass Violin.

Meet our Instruments! Here are 3 fun facts about a Cello: The word cello comes from the Italian word violoncello which literally means little large viola... Cello strings were originally made with sheep or goat gut, but today’s strings are made from aluminum, titanium, and chromium. One of the oldest known cellos was crafted by Andrea Amati between 1538 and 1560 and can be found in the National Music Museum located in South Dakota.
MATT students are busy preparing for their performance at the concert on December 11. We are looking forward to hear Lillian play Largo from Vivaldi’s beautiful Winter Concerto.
