Musica Viva's spring concert -- When They Were Young : Composing Prodigies. Mozart as a precocious 13-year-old--Schubert at 19, on fire with musical inspiration--a young Mendelssohn touring Italy, composing as he goes. Musica Viva Singers celebrate the roots of genius with When They Were Young." Under the direction of Scott Richardson, and joined by a superb ensemble of soloists and instrumentalists, Musica Viva present early gems by prodigies of the Classical era. These wo...rks are paired with brand-new compositions by rising stars on the contemporary Canadian scene, including Kathleen Allan, Matthew Emery, and Nick Piper. Soloists for the concert are Doreen Taylor-Claxton, soprano; Sonya Sweeney, alto; Corey Arnold, tenor; and Jean-Sébastien Kennedy, bass. The ensemble includes Shawn Potter, organ; Brigitte Amyot & Kevin James, violin; Jean-François Marquis, cello. MVS got a warm welcome at Saint-Vincent Hospital tonight as we brought a mini-performance of our 'Green Christmas' show to the residents. It was good to preview our repertoire in front of such a supportive audience!
