Check out NACADA’s event May 13th! More info on the event: Hosted by NACADA’s Canadian Advising Community, this session will examine the issue of underprepared students through an interrogation of the subjectivity of what preparedness actually means. We will explore how intricately-tied student preparation is to motivation, as well as the importance of their willingness to engage in a journey of self-discovery.... Through further discussion on intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation, we will encourage advisors to educate students on the value of investing time in their own career journeys, and how this will result in increased academic and career satisfaction. When students are open to opportunities, and willing to actively engage, this will result in a better understanding of the noncognitive benefits of education, and how their learning translates beyond academia; advisors have an active and important role to play in this process.
