Sheepdogs Cook Up Recipe For Unpretentious Rock By Keith Sharp When you are a rock band whose virtual existence is based on constant touring and recording, it comes as a major shock to your system when those options are taken away from you.... This was the reality, Saskatoon-based rockers, the Sheepdogs faced when the COVID-19 epidemic reared its ugly head last year and eradicated all present and future touring activities. March 20th last year we were all set to tour with The Black Keys and then we planned to go to Portland (Oregon) to record a new album and then all of that stuff got washed away by the epidemic, explained lead vocalist Ewan Currie... By Keith Sharp Live from Neill Dixon’s house, it’s the 2021 Canadian Music Week Conference. All the artists registered for this festival’s talent showcas...e will have to pre-record their performances and all of the CMW’s trademark gala award dinner events have been eliminated with just the Jim Beam Indie Awards going ahead virtually with appearances by July Talk, MONOWHALES, Sam Roberts Band, and Half Moon Run performing live, and streamed from the El Mocambo on Sunday, May 30th...READ MORE https://themusicexpress.ca/its-a-sign-of-the-times-cmw-con/ See more

Roman Mitz ME's Open Spaces columnist interviews Tim Hicks and other Country Stuff - By Roman Mitz While Tim Hicks is known for his raucous live shows and the party atmosphere surrounding them, his evolution as a performer had humble beginnings, as he charmed bar patrons nightly with a vast repertoire of solo acoustic material designed to please a crowd. His latest EP, Campfire Troubadour pulls from this model, reimagining Tim’s chart-topping sound for a more intimate sett...ing, as much at home in a fireside jam as it would be in the unassuming rooms he once played. The opening song Slow sets the tone for the EP, and if you listen closely, you’ll hear embers crackling and crickets chirping. It’s funny because Jeff Coplan, who produced the EP, said he was going to light a fire in his backyard and add some sound effects, says Tim, who’s calling from his Niagara region home. I said that would be neat, but I thought to myself that it would never make it to the final mix. But it worked, and when I heard it in context, I thought it leant the record a real vibe...READ MORE https://themusicexpress.ca/tim-hicks-campfire-troubadour/

We’re really happy to be performing on The 50th Annual JUNO Awards, said the band. We’ve known Leslie Feist for over 20 years, having toured together in 1999. We are all huge fans and Gord loved her. It’s an honour to be able to play one of our songs with her. It’s been such a difficult year for our fellow musicians, we wanted to do something to honour them in a way that would make Gord smile. https://themusicexpress.ca/the-tragically-hip-set-to-perfo/

Canadian Music Week and The INDIES are thrilled to present a full concert by July Talk, on Thursday, May 27 at 8pmET. Fans are invited to watch virtually from anywhere broadcasting on Sessions. Tickets are on sale now at sessionslive.com/JulyTalk. The July Talk concert features the full band, pre-recorded at the legendary El Mocambo Tavern in Toronto. July Talk is nominated for two awards at the 2021 Jim Beam INDIE Awards. July Talk continues to rise with purpose and poise.... The band stormed in with the flinty rock n’ roll of their debut, followed by the volatile siren songs of Touch, an album of sawtoothed pop + convulsing tension. Pray For It, July Talk acknowledges the power of vulnerability as a way to begin again. Their churning and fiercely physical performances make spaces hiss and hum, spit and seethe in glorious, artful abandon. https://themusicexpress.ca/july-talk-concert-broadcast-pre/
