Its that time of year again! Family, friends, and festivities all centered around food and music. A time of year usually filled with gatherings at our favourite annual events is looking a little different this year for musicians and fans. Venues are forced to drastically limit capacity compared to the number of people usually in attendance. For some of our musicians, up to 60% of winter sales come from merch tables at holiday live events. Let us keep hardship for our artists ...at bay and keep our homes rockin’ with local talent. MusicNL is putting together their first Holiday Merch Market, taking place November 28, to give music fans a safe place they can buy direct from their favourite musicians. View all details here: http://ow.ly/PA2N50C70KX Want to take part? Contact Anthony at [email protected]

First Up with RBCxMusic applications are open for Round 2, and if you have any emerging musicians who you think would benefit applying, I’d love if you could share this info. First Up with RBCxMusic is a series of 10-minute artist performances that will take place via Instagram over 3 weeks starting November 27. Selected participants will be paid a $1,000 CAD reward for their performance in light of the lack of live performance opportunities in today’s climate. In order to be... eligible, artists need to be between the ages of 18-35, devote at least 24 hours per week to their art and rely on performing and their music as a source of income. If you know of any interested artists in our community, let them know they can apply now: www.rbcxmusicfirstup.ca http://ow.ly/Nyj850Cq6j8

Super pumped for Innovation Week NATI - NL Association of Technology and Innovation as MusicNL shares one members reflection on how technology has impacted the music world. SNEAK PEEK: Can’t Stop The Music: MusicNL NATI Partner Event... Technology innovation is the driving force behind the music industry. From the 60’s development of the Neve 8028 analog recording system, which put Sound City Studio on the map, to modern era metadata tracking that assists artists in keeping control over their intellectual property. Join Carter Snow (Cartermusic / The Jibfest Weekender / Creatives Talk Shop) and MusicNL’s Anthony Carew (Still Heavy Productions / Artist Manager) as they discuss how adapting new technological trends allow creatives to safeguard their career against economic uncertainty. Collaborating, recording, and performance are at the core of a musical career, each of which has become significantly harder this year. Learn from a couple of active industry professionals’ solution driven conversation, where they look at what tech based strategies are working in light of COVID-19. https://vocm.com/2020/10/16/nati-initiatives/

Long’s Hill: I live(d) Here. is a neighbourhood walking tour by Louise Moyes Docudance, told through those who live and have lived in the Long’s Hill area, in historic downtown St. John’s Newfoundland. In 2016, crisis struck. The Neighbourhood was divided as to what to do. Through dance, photographs, interviews and stories, Long’s Hill Walk reveals our hopes and fears, homes and businesses, our public spaces - and where they intersect. This work brings us face-to-face with the issues that shape a community and how dance, and the act of walking, can express the resilient nature of its people. The performance features neighbourhood artists, Inuk throat singer and drummer Sophie Angnatok and Caribbean-Canadian singer/ songwriter Winnie Churchill.
