Music at St John's 09.11.2020

Here's another sing-along hymn from the St John's Community Choir/Christ Church Parish Choir project. This one was recorded on Tuesday this week, just a couple days before the Provincial Health Order banning public attendance at worship services. As we head into a a challenging winter, you may find the words of this hymn particularly relevant. https://vimeo.com/481926280

IMPORTANT NOTICE - EVENSONG ONLINE ONLY As you will be aware, yesterday's Public Health Order bans public attendance at worship services. Consequently, we will not be able to allow an in-person congregation at Evensong. We are, however, still planning to hold the service and to live-stream it via this page, as well as St John's website and Facebook pages. Thanks for your understanding! Decisions are still being made about what form the 10am service will take, but again, public attendance will unfortunately not be permitted per the Provincial Health Order. Please watch St John's Facebook page for further updates.

St John's and Victoria Baroque were featured in CHEK news tonight. You can hear some of the music Victoria Baroque was supposed to be performing for a live audience here at timings 49:20 and 1:37:30. David also provided the background music for the weather forecast. :)

Do to an oversight, evensong's "event" for this week was languishing in the drafts folder - it's published now: https://www.facebook.com/events/1238839593139739 For this feast of the Reign of Christ, marking the very last Sunday in the Church Year, the music will include a setting of "God so loved the world" by American composer Libby Larsen. Next week, the First Sunday of Advent, and the start of the new liturgical year, we will have an Advent Sequence of Music and Readings. The current circumstances dictate that it won't be as elaborate as previous years, but the themes of Advent (hope, light, ends and beginnings, and the longing for a new world) are perhaps more poignant than ever. Watch for more details!
