Effective Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., the government of Ontario is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for essential work. This order and other new and existing public health restrictions are aimed at limiting people’s mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediat...e household. In addition to limiting outings to essential trips, all businesses must ensure that any employee who can work from home, does work from home. As a result the MCRS head office will again transition our staff to working remotely where possible. As an essential services provider we will remain in operation during the state of emergency but our staff will limit time spent in the office and on sites. During the first state of emergency of this COVID-19 pandemic we experienced record-breaking communications from the residents in the communities we manage. The reality is that with everyone being forced into their homes we are more aware of each other, and sites issues that may arise, then ever before. We feel it is prudent to take this opportunity to remind folks to stay home, stay safe, and of equal importance stay kind. This is not an easy time for any of us. Trades that were already swamped from the prior year will now be further scrambling as a result of the stay at home orders as construction is now restricted to essential works only. We ask that you please be patient and understanding with our staff and the trades that service your site. We will prioritize site emergencies and property needs and respond accordingly but with a reduced support team and operation there will be delays in some cases and we ask that you please understand this in advance. Potential Permanent Changes to Enable Digital and Virtual Processes under the Condominium Act, 1998 Have your say! The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services would like to invite you to participate in a written consultation on potential permanent changes to enable digital and virtual processes under the Condominium Act, 1998. ... As you know, the Legislature passed the COVID-19 Response and Reforms to Modernize Ontario Act, 2020 which, among other things, made temporary legislative amendments to the Condominium Act, 1998 related to virtual meetings and the deferral of annual meetings in some circumstances in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These temporary legislative amendments were further extended by regulation to permit corporations to call and hold meetings as applicable through electronic and telephonic means, notwithstanding certain requirements until May 31, 2021. The Ministry is now seeking your input on whether further temporary or permanent amendments are required under the Condominium Act, 1998 in relation to virtual processes, as corporations adapt to new ways of doing business that are more digital/virtual allowing for broader participation. The Ministry has developed a Condominium Act, 1998 Feedback Form that consists of targeted questions intended to guide participants feedback regarding (1) virtual meetings, (2) electronic delivery of notices and documents, and (3) storage/examination of records through electronic means. The Feedback Form is now posted on Ontario's Regulatory Registry for public comment. A beautiful way to put a smile on the face of those in isolation A lovely couple in one of our lagoon city communities has found a creative way to bring joy to nursing home residents near and far. Barbara Jordan is a professional singer in normal times. However, COVID has paused in-person performances so Barb and her husband Jeff Hood have found a unique way to still share music with the world. Barbara now records songs as requested by people living in nursing homes, with J...eff accompanying on guitar, ukulele or banjo.
