It was a wonderful concert. We can't wait to continue to bring great music to the Gravenhurst stage. Have a listen!
This is a reminder to all Muskoka Concert Facebook followers that our concert scheduled for April 5 with Brett Polegato and Robert Kortgaard has been postponed until a later date. We are sorry about this but we are sure you understand.
Unfortunately, due to COVID19, we are postponing this concert until further notice. We plan to reschedule and will let you know the date as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding and patience.
Congratulations to a great group of musicians. We thoroughly enjoyed your concert. Hope 2020 is even better!
Finally, number 1. I hope you have enjoyed these posts. Merry Christmas.
#4 CHRISTMAS WITH JULIE ANDREWS (1982) While home for Christmas during one of my college breaks, I remember turning on the TV to watch a Julie Andrews special.... I don’t recall it starting out as anything specialuntil she sang In the Bleak Midwinter, and at that point I became riveted to the screen. The beauty of her voice and the tenderness of the arrangement brought the song to life so vividly that it was seared into my memory. The track was taken from this album, which is exceptional in every way. Ian Fraser created the most sensitive settings for Ms. Andrew’s crystalline voice, giving the songs of Christmas a beautifully warm glow. This is an understated, gentle album, and it’s pure art from start to finish. See more
A popular choice. I am looking forward to number one!
#6 TO CATCH A CHRISTMAS STAR Roger Wagner Chorale (1987) I find myself listening to this album frequently over the Christmas season. It features 23 carols ...new and old, domestic and foreign, festive and peaceful. Full marks for variety, at least. But it’s the singing of this beloved American choir that captivates my attention above all. Mr. Wagner had been directing his chorale for over forty years when this album was released, and the maturity of his musicianship is evident in every track. The choir sings with sensitivity and conviction, and with an obvious affection for their director and this beautiful Christmas repertoire. See more
On Sunday, April 5 the Muskoka Concert Association presents Brett Polegato. He is one of Canada’s best baritone singers and is equally comfortable on the concert or the opera stage. His musical ability has earned him the highest praise from audiences and critics. The New York Times praise him for his burnished, well-focused voice which he uses with considerable intelligence and nuance. He is accompanied by Robert Kortgaard who is a favourite collaborator for many of Canada’s finest soloists and vocalists. Tickets are on sale at www.gravenhurstoperahouse.com, at 705-687-5550 or at the box office.
Last Saturday patrons were delighted to hear local pianist Kyung-A Lee perform on the Gravenhurst Opera House stage. The program began with a beautiful rendition of Debussy’s Clair de Lune followed by a stirring presentation of a Bach composition. The performance included a salute to Christmas with a number of pieces from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. The audience was also delighted with our youth performer Abby Liang who at nine years old has a wonderful future as a pianist. Thank you for a wonderful night. The evening was brought to you by The Muskoka Concert Association.
