The restrictions have exemptions for weddings and events which have paid staff monitoring the events. COVID-19 has perilously impacted thousands of small, medium and large event organizers, venues and associated contractors but the confusion caused by the release of misinformation by media outlets is impacting already struggling event and entertainment businesses who are doing their best to survive in the current climate. As an owner of an event company in Bracebridge, I have... watched as my business lost the majority of bookings for 2020 in March, in July we picked up and were able to retain a small portion of events and weddings through July, August and September. As of Thursday evening I have fielded calls and texts from colleagues in the industry who have had a flood of phone calls from panicked couples who are frightened about receiving fines and are now cancelling their weddings for a second time at a large cost to them and the businesses they were trying to support. Please, reread the regulations and amend your releases to reflect the true focus of these restrictions which is to limit large gatherings of young people who are just out for a party and not couples who have a guest list, paid catering staff and are following the rules but have now had their dreams ripped apart for a second time this year.
