Hi Folks; We finally have the new weed catchers in stock. We have them in 2 oz. weight, 1 oz. weight and no weight. I do have more coming though right up to 5 oz. for those who troll fast. They will be on our web site by the week - end under the tab "Bucktails and More" > Terminal tackle. You can customize these too. If you are getting into really heavy weeds you may want to snip off an inch or so off each of the 4 fingers so you rod is not having to fight too much weight or you can bend the wires at different angles to catch more or less weeds.

They are all built using more than 600 strands of tinsel, a front treble anti clog feature and hand sharpened hooks. I made three of each to start. If you prefer our Kawartha model that has a single treble they can me made.

For Medussa users we have the Deep Threat weights back in stock on our website. 1 oz. and 1 1/2 oz. Now that weeds are starting to clear, take your Medussa deeper. You will need split ring pliers to use them though as the hooks must come off to slide them on.

This is another new mix. I wish it showed up better in the photo but the tinsel is a 50/50 mix of orange and yellow. Not gold but yellow. Just so much flash to it. Kind of a different take on a firetiger. It shows up so well in tea coloured water.

And another new colour. Now this is something special. It is so much nicer than the photo. In the water you see white, clear, pink, blue, green and lots of gold. I think it will be called Opal. I have put them on our website and put them into inventory BUT they will not be shipped for about another week.

Since we are talking about heatshrink, here is a closeup of how we tie our skirts. First we seal the windings with a waterproof crazy glue then put a narrow band of heatshrink over the threads so no sharp musky teeth cut the threads. This is time consuming but worth it in the end. Nothing worse than getting a brand new spinner type bait and after one fish the bait falls apart. We tie about 1,500 to 1,700 skirts a year.

Leaders do not get much attention so here are a few photos of how we make ours. We use Seaguar Premier 200 Lb. Fluorocarbon. We deburr the inside of every single crimp. This is where leaders can fail. The inner edge is very sharp. We use saltwater 230 lb. AFW swivels which pivot on both ends. We cover the crimps with heatshrink just to protect your line if it scraps across the leader on a cast. For a bit of added life we put a snubber material around the loop. The sna...ps are a Staylock size 4.5 220 lb. We. give you 3 choices on how we finish the business end of the leader. 1) A snap in the loop. 2) A split ring held by a solid ring. 3) a second swivel holding a split ring. Use 3) if you are trolling bucktails in heavy weeds. If one swivel jams in weeds the second will still spin. On our wire leaders we offer either 100 lb. or 150 lb. and again any of the styles listed above. See our website for pricing and lengths offered. (Bucktails and More Tab > Terminal Tackle).

We have been asked a couple of times how we ship our bumper boards. We have never had a board broken by Canada Post or Fed Ex. We tape pieces of swimming pool noodle inside the box then wrap the bumper board in bubble wrap. So far it has worked very well.

I purchased 12 of the Chaos 12" KC cedar baits. What makes these different from the Chaos Custom X and Mini X is the small lip. This time of the year weeds are thick and getting close to the surface. It can be tough to keep hooks weed free. At 4 mph with 35 feet of 100 lb. line out these lures were only down 4 to 5 feet. If you have your rods in the holder with tips pointed up and slow down to about 3.5 mph and shorten the line out to 30 feet the lures are down only 2 feet. The Black and Grey are the Musky Mag size of 36" x 40" with a 48" deep basket, The red is the Solo Slimer, 30" x 36" with a 48" deep basket and the Yellow is the Kelly's Island 24" x 30" with a 30" deep basket. We also have the Musky Mag size in a dark green basket in 1" mesh and Blue basket is 1" mesh. Either a 40" to 72" telescoping handle or 60" solid handle is avail on each. They have a huge 625 tinsel count, anti clog feature on the front treble, double thickness heatshrink on the rear treble and built on 1/16" (.061 thou) wire. A black colour for cloudy days and evening fishing, a Firetiger for dirty or tea coloured water and a Gold & Silver mix for those super sunny days. $99.00 for the 3 pack.
