We kicked off our first talk of the year with historian Hassam Munir discussing the history of medicine in Islam. Beginning with early Islamic folk medicine, we ventured to the pioneering works of Muhammad ibn Zakariyya ar-Razi on arthrology, visited a dynasty of powerful women, the Begums of Bhopal, who established an all female-staff hospital and were strong advocates for vaccination and ended off with the amazing efforts in academia and public health being made by Muslim ...Canadian physicians today. We are privileged and grateful to our key note, Hassam Munir for showing us a breadth of the rich medical tradition we have in our history as Muslims. We thank our peers for coming out to listen to this part of history often not mentioned in our medical curricula and are excited to continue to see the wonderful contributions Muslims make to medicine.
