Raise your hand if you have ever said, I’m fine when in reality, you were not. This week is Canadian Mental Health Week, and it’s time to #GetReal and embrace... all of our emotionsno matter how uncomfortable they may be. Naming or labeling our emotions can help us understand and process them and can even make us feel better. For Mental Health Week, we encourage everyone including our U.S. friends and family - to participate in the #GetReal challenge and share how you are feeling or what you do to improve your mental health comment below! However, if your emotions are overwhelming, persistent and/or are interfering with your daily life, it is important to seek mental health support. Did you know our new helicopters can fly via remote control? STARS pilots are taking to the skies from the safety of the ground more frequently these days, than...ks to new cutting-edge RC-BS (remote control binary synchronicity) technology. Our crews love it, said Ima Lyre, RC Technologist, STARS. All aircraft have weight limitations, so by eliminating two crew members from the front, it can only help Right? Yet we continue to fly with two pilots on every mission, even if they’re on the ground. One focuses on handheld flight control, the other on communicating with the tower and ordering coffee. It’s a game-changer, said STARS pilot Yuri Phuluvit, pointing at a button on his RC-BS controller. Literally. By pressing this Transition-Direct module, I can go from playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X to flying a real mission. The visors in our pilots’ helmets are retrofitted with a virtual-reality heads-up display, allowing our wing-people to experience each RC-BS flight as if sitting in the cockpit. And when they’re not flying a mission? I just switch it to the sports channel, said Liza LaThyme, the STARS pilot responsible for implementing our RC-BS rollout across the prairies. So the next time you see our helicopter in the sky, look closely at the cockpit. The pilots just might be in another city.

As shift workers, we can all agree that we have been behind the wheel when drowsy before, especially after working night shifts. Driving drowsy is as dangerous as driving while impaired. 20% of collisions in Canada are from drowsy driving. Some helpful ideas to avoid getting behind the wheel drowsy would be making sure you’re getting adequate hours of sleep each day, if you have a passenger, switch out drivers, and if not, safely pull over and take a 20 minute nap. Always check the side effects on your medications as well. Loud music, cold water on face, and chewing gum have been proven to be all myths about helping to avoid drowsy driving. Flashback Friday! No better time than now to introduce to you the face behind Mustang Safety. As this month, Mustang Safety rolls into its 9th year of business! Mustang was established January 2013 by Lenora Paradon. In 2007, Lenora was accepted into the Primary Care Paramedic program at Parkland Regional College. After completion of the course, she did her practicum in Weyburn, getting her competencies signed off through Weyburn OR and Weyburn EMS. ... In 2008, she got her first EMS job with Hutch Ambulance (formerly Wald Ambulance) working at the Assiniboia and Ponteix bases. She also worked casually with Bengough EMS. During that time, she was fortunate to get hands on experience with everything imaginable. In 2009, she hung up the EMS uniform and stepped into coveralls. She started her first job as an oilfield medic working in the Weyburn/Estevan area. In 2011, she ventured north to Kindersley, to visit a close friend and has yet to leave. From 2009-2012, she worked for 4 industrial medic companies but something was always missing and she wanted to make changes. Therefore in 2013, she took the big leap and established Mustang Safety Services Ltd. from the ground up. Starting with 1 Mobile Treatment Centre and working as an owner/operator, to presently having a small fleet of trucks with a crew of outstanding medics! #fbf #mustangsafetyservices #oilfield #onsitesafety #emergencymedicalresponder #primarycareparamedic

From Covid 19 to falling oil prices, it’s a year no one prepared themselves for. Even during this challenging year, there are so many things that I am thankful for. The wheels kept turning, just at a slower pace than normal. For that, I am beyond grateful for. I am thankful to have such great staff who are away from their families this Thanksgiving weekend putting hours in. I cannot thank them enough! 12 years ago, walking out of Primary Care Paramedic school, I would have ...not expected myself to be where I am today. I am thankful to wake up every morning and go to a job that I absolutely love doing. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF OUR OILFIELD FAMILIES. We are so thankful for you. To those working today to support your family. And to those of you holding it down at home.
