We've been busy this weekend in our kitchen creating! We want to keep all dogs happy! So..... On-top of our regular cookies, we will be starting to offer som...ething for those with wheat sensitivities! Our new VEGAN And NO WHEAT cookie! (Not gluten free. Although we thoroughly clean everything, we understand cross contamination, and these cookies are cooked in the same kitchen and oven as our regular cookies. However, we do use seperate tools, and cleaning rags for these to attempt to eliminate as much cross contamination as possible!) The PBAB - natural peanut butter, Apple, Blueberries and ground Oats! These special cookies will first be available at TUESDAY'S Farmer's Market!!! May 18 10am - 2pm at the Vermilion ELK'S Hall

I USED TREATS BUT THEY DIDN’T WORK That’s like saying: I tried using a tennis racket but I couldn’t win a game. That tennis racket is merely a tool which requi...res skill to use well. Good positive reinforcement training is no different. The treats are a tool - how you use them makes all the difference. Here are a few tips to using treats effectively: TIMING: Rewards are given in recognition of one’s effort or achievement. So for that treat to be a reward, it has to happen AFTER your dog does something you like. If you show your dog the treat before you ask him to do something that’s a bribe. And he is free to say no to it. Note that resting hands in your pocket or fiddling with a plastic baggie in anticipation of offering a reward are also bribes - train with empty, relaxed hands! The one exception is luring when teaching a new skill but even lures should be faded out after just a few repetitions VALUE Your dog decides what is rewarding! Just because someone suggested a particular treat or because you feel your dog SHOULD work for pats or praise doesn’t mean that he finds these reinforcing. And if he doesn’t, that behaviour won’t get stronger. Note: just because he eats it, doesn’t mean he is willing to work hard or ignore squirrels for it. Find something your dog is coocoo for - whether it’s hot dogs, cheese strings, belly rubs or a game of tug, get to know what YOUR dog loves best. CRITERIA This is the level of difficulty you are requiring. SIT in the kitchen is a lot easier for your dog than SIT in the middle of the dog park. If he isn’t getting it right, you might be asking for something beyond his skill level and setting him up to fail. Find the training environment that makes it easy for him to get the right answer! CONSISTENCY If you aren’t providing reliable rewards, you probably won’t be getting reliable behaviour. At least not until your dog knows this skill backwards and forwards, in different locations and with different levels of distractions and at various distances from you. Don’t be afraid to continually reinforce behaviour you like! As long as you aren’t bribing, the behaviours that get reliably reinforced only get stronger!

Not a rant or rave :: please keep look out for her. 12 hours ago she got out (during fireworks) We have literally been all over town I dont no how many times,... i have went north on 41 and south on 41 plus out by golf course and back been down back roads. We have spent 5 hours looking everywhere for her. Kids and chris took bikes we took whisper (our other dog) out for a walk. We put her bed out and some food plus my sweater so now guess wait to see. We have told kids it is up to Dolce now and Facebook. We hope she find her way home again. If anyone sees her please message me or Chris G Meeuws then we have better idea where to start the search again She is a friendly dog loves kids and loves car rides. She is a 2 year old mastiff/Shepherd dog brindle colored. She answers to Dolce (most of the times) she is probably scared as she hasnt been away this long from us. We have had her for a year so she might be a little timid. Please just keep a look out for her we will come look and get her if anyone see her out and about. We have feeling she headed either north on 41 or west on 16 as we live close to both highways. Thanks everyone in advance. See more

GROWLS are GOOD!! Why you should appreciate a growl. Growling means: Your dog is communicating discomfort. Understand that this is how your dog tells you somet...hing isnt right. (unless it is a play growl) Never punish a growl(referring to positive punishment): This can lead to a dog who stops giving warning before biting. Stop & Evaluate: When your dog growls, stop what youre doing that may be causing the growl and evaluate the environment/situation. Determine triggers: Take note of potential triggers for your dogs discomfort leading to the growl. Calming signals: Recognize calming signals such as, yawning, looking away, lip licking and more. These are ways your dog communicates needing space before growling. Counter condition: Talk to a professional trainer to help you counter-condition your dog to whatever is making them uncomfortable.
