A new perspective on an old blast. Check out this historical snapshot of the famous Ripple Rock Explosion in Seymour Narrows back on April 5, 1958. It was taken by Christan Mamen, a mining engineer on the project and sent to us by Mr. Mamen's grandson's relatives, our future passengers. #ripplerock #seymournarrows #frightboattours... #smallshipcruising #tourismvancouverisland #destinationbc See more

Winter Update: Its a rare treat to see this side of The Aurora as she is up on a floating dry dock in Menzies Bay getting a little love featuring: 1 Her Transport Canada Marine Safety 5 Year Inspection (this is the big one). 2 Some new paint on her hull 3 Extensive rebuild of her bow deck & loading ramp.... and some other more cosmetic touches including the addition of 2 new shower rooms for our passengers. We still have room for our 2021 season which begins April 6 with COVID-19 protocols in place and 100% domestic travelers. Perhaps this is your year to sail with us! Call now for more info 250-286-3347, we'd love to chat with you. #freightboattours #smallshipcruising #explorelocal #explorebclocal #BroughtonArchipelago #desolationsound #discoveryislands #tourismvancouverisland #tourismcampbellriver #tourismbc

An example of some of the unique freight that the MV Aurora Explorer carries. Here’s a throwback to November 2007 when Nuytco Research out of North Vancouver chartered the Aurora Explorer to launch their deep-water submersible (a 1-man pod/submarine) from her deck. The submersible was used to assess what hazards to the ecosystem were present after an August 2007 accident when a freight barge (not owned by Marine Link) listed sending her cargo overboard into the waters of Rob...son Bight Ecological Reserve. Using sonar scans they were able to locate the wreckage on the ocean floor 350 meters below the surface. Among the 11 pieces of logging equipment was a diesel tanker carrying 10,000 liters and a metal cube holding 1,400 liters of hydraulic oil. In May of 2009, the oil and fuel truck were pulled recovered safely with little environmental impact in a $2.5 million dollar operation coordinated by the Provincial and Federal governments. The rest of the vehicles and logging equipment remain on the sea floor including a log loader that sits upright on its tracks, arm extended as if ready for immediate use. See more
