It's that time of year again....The time of year when we start plugging in our vehicles at night! Please remember to check that your outside receptacles are working. we would hate to hear that you found yourself with a vehicle that doesn't want to get going when you need it to. If they aren't working, here are a few things to check to make sure that you can get it sorted quickly: - Check your other outside receptacles, as one might be a GFI and need to be reset.... - In most newer homes, there is a "deadfront" GFI mounted near the electrical panel that can trip out and need resetting. (See the second picture) - In some homes, there is a GFI breaker inside the panel that powers all the outside receptacles. If you run through all these tips and can't seem to solve the issue, then be sure to give us a call! We will be happy to help. Also, if you find yourself constantly tripping a breaker when you plug more than one vehicle in at night, we have a solution for you! So give us a shout and we will gladly get it sorted! Stay Safe, Stay Warm, and most of all....Stay Happy!

Do you have a receptacle in your living room that doesn't work? Or maybe only half of it works? Do you have a switch nearby that appears to do nothing? There's a good chance that the two issues are related. Flick the switch and check the receptacle again. "Switch plugs" as they're known in the trade, were very common in the 80's and 90's. You usually find them in a room that has no light in the cieling. Now you know! Spread the word!

The Most common question we get asked is: "Do I need a permit?" The short answer is, YES. According to Section 2, Rule 2-004 of the Canadian Electrical Code (2015): "Electrical contractors or others responsible for carrying out the work shall obtain a permit from the inspection department before commencing work with respect to installation, alteration, repair, or extension of any electrical equipment."... Who pulls the permit? If you hire an electrical contractor, they are responsible for pulling a permit to commence work. However, If you are a DIY kind of person, you can do most of the electrical work in your own house under a "Homeowners Permit". The stipulation here is that the work must be done by yourself and you must not hire anyone to do the work under your permit. (Most people do anyway....sshhhhhh!) Whats the point of getting a permit anyway? The permits provide a permanent record of the work performed and inspections conducted on the project. Also, some homeowners are finding when they try to sell or refinance their home that prospective buyers or lending institutions want proof that alterations were performed in compliance with local codes. Without a permit and inspection on record, there is no proof. Even though an inspection gets passed by an authorized inspector, no they take no liability in the case that they missed something major. Do I need a permit for: Changing light bulbs or light fixtures? No Changing switches or receptacles? No Changing Breakers? No As long as you aren't making any physical repairs or alterations to the circuit wiring itself, you do not require a permit. We hope that this little article helps to answer some questions for you! Don't forget to call us if you ever have any questions, we are always here to help!

Get the better of these petty criminals! With the recent vast amount of burglaries and vehicle thefts, we have decided to add a new service to our lineup! Let us install a garage door kill switch for you. The GDK is a switch that is located on the wall in your garage that you can use to completely cut off the power to your garage door opener. That way, if someone gets into your car, the remote for the garage door will be useless to them. We have installed a few in Langdon and the customers love it! Call us today to get more information and to book a time for installation!
