Why you should wear a mask.
Stage Mother is a must see 2020 Canadian comedy-drama film available on pay per view. It’s about a Texas conservative church-choir director who inherits her late son’s San Francisco drag club.
I got a lump in my throat and a strong sense of pride when I learned that our own home hockey team the Vancouver Canucks postponed their playoff games in support of racial injustice which has recently been exacerbated by the recent incident in Kenosha Wisconsin. Could you imagine how much stronger that message could be if we asked our Vancouver Canucks if they could tape up their sticks at their next game with rainbow pride tape to also bring attention to the recent incident ...in their own home city of Vancouver. A group of anti-gay, so called preachers, were spewing venomous homophobic hate speech through speakers in Vancouver’s West End, a neighborhood that many of our LGBTQ+ call home. These thugs broke a man’s leg while he was trying to protect our own LGBTQ+ community from this religious hate drivel. Our neighborhoods and homes are supposed to be a place where we can feel safe. Do you think if we spread the word it just might make it to our team, the Vancouver Canucks, and we might see some rainbow sticks on the ice this weekend? It would be a show of solidarity that we don’t accept any type of hateful behavior, at home in Vancouver, or anywhere.
Years ago, my mom’s religious in-laws used to criticize her for playing bingo because they said gambling was sinful. She replied saying that if she went to hell for playing bingo, then at least she would be with all her friends. If I’m condemned to hell for leading an LGBTQ+ lifestyle then at least I know I will one day be with my mom again, sitting next to her, playing bingo with all our friends.
A message from an old gay guy to our young LGBTQ community. I remember this old AIDS poster like it was yesterday. I only wish I could remember the names of all my friends that died during that pandemic. In those days playing safe meant wear a condom and keep your circle tight. Today it includes wearing a mask and keeping your bubble small. I hope when you’re my age you don’t have to try and remember the names of all the people you cared about. Please play safe, be safe, wear a mask to protect others, social distance, and keep your bubble small by avoiding large crowds.

We’ve put together a few photos from over the years of our favorite parts of pride. Tell us, what’s your favorite part of pride?
Pride 2015 throwback. Tell us about your first pride!
Just a short one-minute video of the colorful artwork in Yaletown with some calming music. I think we can all use a relaxing moment throughout the day during these stressful times.
Mary's on Davie is for sale.
Pride in Spain. 14 Women in Spain knitted a 50 meter long rainbow flag which took over 2-1/2 months to make.
When you wear a face covering you help protect those around you. MyDavieVillage.com is a blog listing our LGBTQ resources in one central place so people can easily find the links they need to create their own social and support networks through sport, art, or any other LGBTQ community-based group. Mydavievillage.com Vancouver’s virtual LGBTQ gaybourhood. You’re not alone, your community is still here.
Washington DC’s oldest gay bar, the DC Eagle (48 years), and Ziegfeld’s/Secrets (40 years) have permanently closed their doors along with Austin TX gay bar, ‘Bout Time 2. Seattle’s Re-Bar (30 years) announced they will be closing and plan to re-open in the fall of 2021 in a different location. Gentrification, high rents, and now forced closures and social distancing have made doing business impossible for some of these businesses. Gay bars have been a cornerstone of our LGBT...Q community providing support for our political causes, our sports groups, and our fundraisers to name a few. More importantly gay bars have provided us with a safe space and vibrant community where we are free to be ourselves. In the midst of this pandemic and times of social distancing, how do we preserve these institutions and where does our LGBTQ community go from here? https://www.mydavievillage.com/vancouver-lgbt-community/
