More "happy practice" gingerbread men! The orange thing at the top of one of them is a parachute.

Students are gradually completing their "happy practice" gingerbread men! Each day they had a happy practice, they got to draw one more thing on their gingerbread man, starting after the Christmas break. Here is a sample from a SB2 and a SS2 student.

Playing Feed the Sun

Introducing - MYC Game Packs! One thing that I found missing in our online classes in the spring was...GAMES! We were very limited in the games we were able to play online - but one of the special things about MYC is the variety of hands-on tools we use for teaching and learning. In my first year teaching MYC, I had a student - a 9-year-old beginner - who was a somewhat reluctant learner. In the first few weeks of lessons, he could not remember that a half-note (turtle) was w...orth 2 beats/tags until we played a game that used a rhythm spinner to tell him how many spaces to move around the game board. It was like magic - suddenly he knew how many beats a half note was worth! I would like to bring back some of that magic to our classes, even though some students are still online and those in the studio will be distancing. For this year, I have made up individual game packs for each student which I will be loaning out to you. There are 3 game packs per level - you will use one for the first few weeks, then trade it in for your next game pack, and so on. Younger students (Sunshine 1 & Sunshine 2) will also have a set of finger puppets they will be borrowing. The great thing is that you will be able to use these games not only in class, but also at home, for added fun and learning! We ask you to do your best to treat these game packs with respect so that we can use them again. Keep in your music bag. Keep them snapped up in their folder when not in use, out of reach of younger siblings. We understand that there will be normal wear and tear on the games, just as there would be playing them in the studio; however please do make an effort to take care of them. Here are some photos of the games so you can have a sneak peek - these pictures are for the first 9 or 10 lessons only so it's only a glimpse of the variety of games I have ready for you!
