Wayne Strach My English Channel swim 05.06.2021

So upon successfully completing my English Channel Swim on Aug. 21st, many of you have asked me; What is next? At the moment I am planning to swim from Los Angles to Catalina Island in August of 2017. There are many recognized open water marathon swims in the world, but the three that are referred to as the triple crown of marathon swimming are comprised of the English Channel Swim, The Catalina Island Swim, and the around Manhattan Island Swim. So I will likely do the Manha...ttan swim at some point in my life, as well. I have also planned on doing lake swim next summer, likely Aug. 2016 and am welcoming other swimmers to join me. I have suggested a 100 km 4 day camp and swim from Revelstoke to Nakusp on the Arrow Lakes, but I seem to be getting more interest from other swimmers for an Okanogan Lake swim from Vernon to Penticton, a distance of 135 km I believe, so perhaps a 5 day swim. I have attached a photo of a beach in Vernon that would likely be the starting point for the Okanogan Lake swim and a photo in Revelstoke of a likely starting point for an Arrow Lakes swim. The Arrow lake swim would likely be a wet suit swim for most people though. The Okanogan seems more likely at the moment. If we do organize a group of swimmers to participate in a 100plus km lake challenge I will apply to G.S.S. (Global Swim Series to set our swim as world recognised marathon event.) See more

I have been swimming in Dover Harbour for the last 4 days and acclimatising to the water. All is going well and I am looking forward to my family and support team to arrive and to my channel swim next week

As I am heading to England in less than a week to start my 10 day Dover Harbour training, I thought I would post a reminder that I have linked my swim as a fundraiser to "Plan" "Because I am a girl". In many societies in this world, girls and women are still horribly abused, mistreated, and undervalued simply because they are female. "Plan" is an organisation that is engaged in promoting gender equality in many ways. I haven't ever been looking for personal sponsorship for my swim, but if you wish, you can show your support for my swim by clicking on http://www.gofundme.com/channelswimforplan

The four day 100 km Arrow Lake swim doesn't seem to be coming together at least for this year. Maybe we can plan for next year or maybe even plan for the whole 230km swim from Revelstoke to Castlegar. That's about a 10 day swim though so maybe too long for most people. Contact me if interested in the swim or a shorter version (or longer) or if you want to bring your boat. A Sproat Lake swim mid September this year may be coming together, however. I friend has offered to provide the use of his lakeside house on a warm Vancouver Island lake, to stay at and has also offered the use of his business jet to get there and back. It's not really a wilderness swim roughing it in a tent with a long drive to a cold lake as planned, but it is the best I can do.

Thank you Birget and Joseph for joining me on the Gull Lake swim and thank you Al Haberman for the support and Captain Wayne Sharpe for providing the support boat. I will have pictures as soon as Wayne gets back from his "Walk a bout" retreat. I believe he is still out alone in some remote part of the foothills for several more days with only his horse and dog to talk to. (no cell phone no internet) Way to go Wayne Sharpe!! Keep living well.

Hi, I have one young lady from my masters swim club joining me on my Gull Lake swim on July4th. It should be a good time. Although I don't have all the logistics confirmed, I am planning a 100 Km swim from Revelstoke B.C. on the Arrow Lakes July 27th-30th. This is planned to be an unsupported four day swim and camp (tow my own food, gear, and supplies on a floatation device) although I do plan to have boaters along for safety. I have posted with two of my swimming groups and are looking for other swimmers or boaters or swimmers that would like to do a portion of that swim. I swim in water 15C. or more without a wet suit, but other people may choose to wear a wet suit at those temps.

I will be doing a 14 km lake swim at Gull Lake this Saturday July 4th. I am expecting the water temp to rise above 18C. so it should be fairly good for swimming. If anyone wishes to join me you could give me a call at 780 217-0553. "Captain Wayne Sharpe" will be piloting the support boat. We will plan to meet at noon at Aspen Beach Provincial Park boat dock. I expect to be planning other lake and river swims in July and will post shortly. Wayne
