Thank you for all the support and glowing reviews. Without you we wouldn't be able to say we have won 6 consecutive HomeStars Best of Awards. Stay Safe, Ross and Erik
Here is the last job we did, before the state of emergency/stay at home order. We mounted this super cool television. It mounts flush to the wall like a piece of art. A very apropos final job if I do say so myself.
Do to the provincial stay at home order we are only open for emergency repairs and installations that imminently jeopardize your health or safety, such as railings, grab bars, leaking toilets, etc. Please stay safe, wear a mask, and let's get these numbers down.
The most Canadian life hack we’ve ever installed. Thank you to Alanna, a good client of ours, for finding this solution. Tired of your hockey sticks falling like dominoes? These grocery bag holders will do the trick. Simply install them without the bottom and your sticks slide right through. As you can see, on the 3rd grocery bag holder we attached the bottom to store hockey pucks and balls. Creating a simple orderly solution for a great Canadian pastime.
Mother Nature tried her darnedest to stop us today, but we still got it done. One rotten newel replaced.

We’d be more than happy to help you with your to do lists. That being said, we assure you the safety of both you (our valued customers) and Ourselves is My Go-2-Guy’s number one priority. Our vehicles are equipped with and abundance of PPE, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant. We are also keeping to one indoor job per technician a day to better minimize and track any possible transmission of COVID-19. Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate these uncharted waters.
First it was toilet paper, then it was hair clippers and hair dye, now lumber? That seems to be the case. This was the scene at Home Depot today. I guess people have decide to spend money on the backyard this year in leu of travel and with shipping moving slower than usual the lumber yards can’t keep up. We ended up at 3 different stores before we found what we needed today. Just another day working through a pandemic.
We hope everyone is safe and sound. Here is our latest Covid-19 update. https://gem.godaddy.com/s/c4b1c01
Due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases within the GTA, under the advice of the CDC, The Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization, as well as for our health and yours, we will be extending our hiatus through to May 1st. This was not an easy decision, nor one we took lightly but one we felt was necessary to help flatten the curve. Any customers with previously scheduled work will be contacted directly and be given first priority when we resume op...erations. We are still more than happy to do estimates, as well as discuss and book future work at via phone or email. We hope to see you healthy, happy and soon, My Go-2-Guy Handyman Services, Erik & Ross Simmons

It's always great working with clients that know what and where they want things. This week we turned an ordinary wall into an extraordinary one. The colour was emailed to us prior to our appointment, and as you can see the job was laid out when we arrived. There were also written notes in regard to the picture spacing. This way our client got exactly what they wanted, and we were able complete the work quick making it more cost effective for them. All that's left now is to fill these frames with wonderful memories.

Sometimes the things we find just blow our minds. A client of ours had some leaking toilets, they were installed by a licensed plumber no less. When we began investigating, we found one of toilets was installed so poorly it hadn’t even been bolted down (seen in the first picture). Instead, it was just sealed to the floor with silicone. When we removed the toilet, we noticed that the flange was about of an inch below the tile floor, they used 2 wax rings, it barely touch...ing the toilet, and the floor had been tiled so poorly the tiles were set on top of a section of the flange. WHAT A MESS. To repair this properly we had to grind away the tile that was laid over the flange to allow us to install a flange lift kit (the white part in picture 2), which comes with longer bolts so that they reach the toilet. We then put down a jumbo wax ring. The job, once we had all the parts, took a little over an hour. It just goes to show you that just because someone is a licensed trade, doesn’t mean they know, or care about what they are doing.
This was another new one. One of our great customers had their flooring installer leave without finishing up the stairs, We were able to get the wood from the distributer and created piece of nosing for the final step.
There is always something new in this line of work and that is what we enjoy about it. We had great fun building these 3 custom radiator covers. All the wood was cut, routed, sanded, pocket screwed, glued and primed. The most interesting part of this build was working with the caning as it was entirely new to us. We think it makes a beautiful screen and it was fun to work with too. Let us know what you think of them ?

My Go-2-Guy has suffered a great loss today. Erik's safety gloves have finally been put to rest. They built a lot of decks, and demolished even more. Thanks for the memories. :P

This past week we finished off a mini entryway with custom wardrobe. One of our wonderful clients has a child moving back in and they wanted to give him and his partner some privacy, but with an open stairway to the basement things weren't that simple. We custom built a wardrobe to fit perfectly into crevasse of the stairs, and built around it. Now her son has a private entry, bathroom and coat closets as he works toward homeownership in this crazy city.
Heres a little fence and gate we built to help one of our wonderful customers close in their backyard for a 4-legged friend. We cant wait to meet their new family member on our next visit.
Rain drops may be falling on our heads today, but I have to say it's better than what falls on us somedays. This poor little fella dive bombed us on a recent job. Just a reminder to everyone please don't use poison to kill unidentified animals. It's dangerous and may harm birds, pets, and even people.
Be sure to keep an eye on your vents this spring. If they are damaged give us a shout. You don't want them full of nests like this one. Thankfully it was an old nest and no birds were harmed in it's removal.
Checkout our most recent review, These steps were a blast to build and came out beautifully. We'd like to give a big thank you to Beth for taking the time to write such kind words. We can't wait to see what comes our way next.
To all our followers that don't receive our newsletters, My Go-2-Guy would like to wish you a happy Easter, and remind all of you that are caregivers for a senior, or a senior yourself to checkout The Toronto Caregiver Show.
Here are two fun and colourful jobs we did this week. For you animal lovers, we hung these awesome animal photos up in a nursery and for all you Coco-Cola lovers out there, we assembled this vintage inspired patio set for Erik's Balcony.
Nobody has ever called us models, and I don't think they ever will, however we can now be called 4 time Homestars Best Of Award winners. Thank you for taking the time to leave such great reviews this past year. If you are looking for photogenic work we're your Go-2-Guys... just don't ask us to pose with it
Erik's been quite busy this past January, on top of work, he also put together these shelves for his condo. A big thanks to his cousin Alan for the live edge. To learn more about what it took to make them, check out our January Newsletter below. Big closet, little door. Big closet, big door. Here is a job we did about 1 week ago. We took out a 30-inch door in a 5-foot wide closet, and created a 4-foot opening. Our clients plan on redoing the floors soon, so we simply patched the wider opening with plywood until they make their final decision. We were able to take trim from inside the closet and use it for the top piece of casing as they no longer manufacture that profile. All in all we think it looks pretty good, and will be much more functional.
When The Great Big Sea sings "heave away, me jollies, heave away" they may be singing about sailors but it also works for this bike storage system. By hanging a system of pulleys from the ceiling (which you can purchase at Lowes for $22) you can hoist your bike to the ceiling saving valuable floor space. We also installed the system the ladder, buggy and tools are on and a shelf which is just out of the picture.
Your go to guys have been up to a whole lot this October, and we have a few after shots to prove it. We started this month closing off a section of a large basement room to create an Office and removing some old wire shelving. Over Thanksgiving Erik refinished an old wooden dresser, (He's waiting 30 days for the paint to fully cure before drilling and attaching the drawer pulls). Lastly we recently finished a little powder room reno Taking it from 1998 to 2018 and we have the news papers to prove it... no really they used newspaper as a backing for the plaster... which I'm sure you can all guess was never building code compliant :P
This project was a first for us. This past week we turned an extra piece of counter top into some open shelving. We even had enough left over to surprise them with a little cutting board.
This Past August was a doozy, not only did with get the deck done we also did this kitchen facelift. We removed a cabinet and installed a shelf to accommodate the extra tall fridge. We then painted the cabinets a bright white. Now because Home Depot messed up the countertop delivery we had to start on the backsplash (good thing we know how to measure). When the counter top was delivered, we installed it and put in the sink, we then finished the tiles and grouting, installed a small cabinet and countertop just outside of the picture, and caulked it all in. There you have it, a modern kitchen with old school charm.
Here is a before and after of a back deck we completed in mid August. As you can see by the close up of the beam (or lack there of) it had completely rotten through. We built it out another 4' making the new deck about 16' by 16'. We built a door to access underneath, added a railing on the stairs, extended the privacy fence out to the end of the new deck, and decked it with 2x6's for extra strength and durability. We think it looks great, what about you?
Here is a project Erik and his girlfriend completed for his new place. These chairs started off as your standard wood set. They sanded, primed, and painted them with 2 coats of Benjamin Moore Advance in the colour Chamomile - 397. Keep your eyes peeled for the table and dresser that they have plans to finish before the cold weather hits.
Are you looking for a fun way to bring some industrial flair into your home? My Go-2-Guy can help by building you some custom iron pipe furniture, and/or railings as seen here. So give us a shout, and we will help you out, because If you can dream it, we can build it.
Have you seen our latest newsletter? Check it out here.
When my dad told me we were going to pick up some folding TV dinner tables to fix, my first though was, "Why not buy new ones?" and then I saw them. These beautiful, hand done, hardwood, inlaid tables, are without a doubt the nicest folding tables I've ever seen. What a pleasure it was to repairs such a cool piece of practical art.
I was going through some pictures last night and found this oldie. It's me (Erik) and my cousin digging for the septic line at the cottage. We are being supervised by my vanaisa (grandpa). That retired carpenter always found something to teach us and tire us out up there.
It's a three-peat! My Go-2-Guy is proud to announce that we have earned the Best of HomeStars Award for the 3rd consecutive year. We'd like to thank you all for your incredible support and hope to be announcing a 4th this time next year.
