This was hard to post. The dreaded calls and text on the last day of school! Some schools request that meds be picked up earlier, please make sure to pick up on the last day of school, just in case! It started with hives on the arms, apparently escalated to difficulty breathing! no known allergens ingested.

Thank you San Mateo Parents Club for hosting a family story time event. I had the pleasure of meeting 2 amazing children book authors. Michelle Travis on My Mom has 2 jobs, a much needed book for empowering working moms and showing how we are professionals and caregivers. And Mark Sotilaro’s book, Now I Know What You Are, a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star but with a scientific approach of teaching kids what stars are!

June Speaker Series: Family Storytime in the Garden! This event is free and open to the public. We’re excited to ring in summer with a special outdoor storytime in the garden with three parent authors:... Michelle Travis, author of My Mom Has Two Jobs Paris Jalali, author of SuperDan & Food Allergies Mark Sottilaro, author of Now I Know (Just What You Are) He will be playing guitar and doing a sing-along version of his book This social event will be followed by a panel discussion in the Rose Room to hear more about about their books, the writing process, and creating space for creating while parenting. As always, complimentary refreshments will be served. We hope you can join us for an evening of family fun! Please RSVP so we can be sure to plan for enough snacks for all.

Great news!! The New York State Senate voted on Elijah's Law last Wednesday and passed!!! Elijah's Law -extend the protections that are currently in place in K-12 to all early childcare programs. The bill will also require the State to establish Food Allergy Guidelines and all early childcare programs adopt those guidelines. Early childcare programs will be required to establish food allergy safety plans and have an adult on site that is able to spot the signs and treat th...e symptoms of anaphylaxis. Elijah’s Law will go a long way to ensure that all children in every learning environment--daycare center, Pre-K programs, and K-12--are safer and better cared for when it comes to food allergies. Governor Cuomo once said, when New York does something, the rest of the country pays attention. He’s right. We’re hoping he will take this lead and pass the most sweeping and comprehensive law in the country designed to protect children with food allergies. My son’s classroom planned a field trip at a pizza parlor. Even though my son would be surrounded by all of his food allergens, he really wanted to participate and share the experience with his classmates. At first, I was nervous about it, but didn’t want to hold him back. I realized that I cannot keep him in a bubble. SuperDan was surrounded by his kryptonite but stayed safe in the allergy fight!
