For this week’s #interioroftheweek, I’ve chosen a stunning property listed @kale_bandura in Sunnyside. I chose this property because of the unique coffered ceilings offered throughout the home. This style of ceiling dates all the way back to the Greek & Roman era and was originally used as a method of reinforcement and weight distribution for heavy stone ceilings. The style was brought back during the Renaissance period and survives in modern architecture as a decorative tech...nique to add height and regality to a space. The coffered ceilings in the living, dining, and bedroom areas create the illusion of heightened ceilings throughout this home. The angles of the square coffers allow more light to refract throughout each room, helping to make the space feel more open and airy. This week’s #interioroftheweek features a little before & after of a space listed by @benknopprealestate in Rideau Park. Built in 1974, this home has undergone many updates that contribute to the contemporary feel the home has today. Can anyone say #glowup?! There was so much to highlight in this home, however, this week I have chosen to focus on the upper level living area. One important update to the space is the replacement of the solid handrail with a metal frame glass h...andrail, allowing more natural light to enter the space and also more visibility from the upper floors to the ground below. Another important change is the removal of the protruding wall, which encapsulated the chimney from the fireplace on the ground level. Removing this piece of wall both opens the space, allowing furniture to more appropriately fit against the wall, and also allows for the continuation of the oxidized steel up the wall from the fireplace on the ground floor. This continuation of material creates a beautiful continuity between the space on the ground floor and upper levels and brings a unique industrial element to the space.
