Happy Family Day!! It’s Yamini here! To me family means EVERYTHING! Not just our blood family but also our work family! My family has been there there through it all. I cannot thank or repay my parents enough for what they have done through my life- too many words to say (not enough characters on here to write it- plus I will definitely start crying - trying not to tear up right now!). My sisters and I will drop everything for one another, no questions asked! Lastly but NOT ...least by any means is my hubby - he has been my rock especially as a new business owner - the endless hours I work and coming home to a nice cooked dinner has been amazing (among other things he has stepped up to help with!). My work family - I appreciate every one of our team and the hard work they do to help our community and help our clinic grow. I’m lucky to have found them and to be working with like minded folks! We are missing a few in the picture! To our community who have become family - thank you all so much for your continued support! Without our community we wouldn’t be where we are! If you sit for most of the day, you probably have a stiff back Here are some great exercises to loosen up and take a break from work! Complete 10 repetitions of each exercise (within your comfort zone)... 1. Wall Angels: stand against a wall while slowly bringing your arms up and down. Make sure that both of your arms are up against the wall. Be sure to squeeze your upper back while doing this exercise without raising your shoulders. 2. Scapular Retractions: imagine squeezing a pencil between your shoulder blades. Again, try not to raise your shoulders. 3. Brugger: while standing, stretch out a resistance band as you squeeze your shoulder blades together. Rotate your shoulder outwards and extend your neck. We welcome Veronica Monture @veronicamonture to the MyLife family!! We are very excited to have her part of our team! Veronica is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7pm offering personal training and fascial stretch therapy! Veronica has been a Personal Trainer for the past 8 years, and a Fascial Stretch Therapist for the past 5. Prior to this, Veronica grew up as an athlete of many sports and was a member of the Queen’s University Varsity Rowing Team while completing h...er undergraduate degree. Veronica also most recently became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist in 2019 as she believes in the importance of approaching and tackling health issues with a variety of therapeutic modalities that address the root cause of inflammation in the body. Outside of the clinic, Veronica enjoys life with her daughter and her husband at their house by the lake in Ajax. CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT Our rehab-focused chiropractors here at MyLife Rehab & Wellness offer two types of treatments. 1. ADJUSTMENT/MANIPULATION TREATMENT... 2. REHAB/ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT This video is an example of an adjustment/manipulation treatment with our chiropractors. Adjustment/manipulation sessions are typically 15 minute sessions that can include soft tissue therapy, joint mobilizations and manipulations/adjustments of the joints. Who gets adjustment sessions? (*NOTE: this list is not exclusive) Patients that come in regularly for supportive/maintenance care Patients that need a tune-up Patients with generalized mild-moderate neck/upper back/lower back pain or stiffness Patients with headaches/seeking management of headaches Patients with mild-moderate extremity pain that are recovering from injury and already have an established rehab program. Rehab/Acupuncture treatments are typically 30-40 minute sessions that can include the same type of treatment as mentioned above as well as acupuncture, specific exercise programming, more specific and in-depth soft tissue treatment techniques and more. Who gets rehab/acupuncture sessions? (NOTE: this list is not exclusive) Patients with specific sports injuries Patients requiring acupuncture Patients with more moderate-severe neck/upper back/lower back pain/discomfort Patients with nerve pain/symptoms (numbness, tingling, sciatica, etc) Patients with extremity pain/injuries requiring a specific exercise rehab plan (ankle sprains, knee injuries, shoulder pain/rotator cuff tears, etc) Treatment plans are recommended and discussed in detail with each patient. Each practitioner will determine what type of treatment you require. Only the treatment techniques that each individual is comfortable with will be included in the plan. 4 Prenatal Core Exercises (swipe left) by Kim @primalhealth). Tag a friend/family who could use this! These are some safe prenatal core exercises for 1st, 2nd or 3rd trimester. Video 1: Breathwork "Vaccum" (maintain better posture, alleviate back pain and help support the pelvis)... Imagine you're zipping-up your naval . and hugging your baby with your core muscles. Hold for 5-10 seconds or as long as you can maintain proper form Repeat 10 reps. Video 2: Cat/Cow (increase mobility in hips and pelvis). In table top position, (shoulders directly over wrists, hips over knees, neutral spine) inhale to arch your back, reaching your tailbone to the sky and chest forward (cow) Exhale to round your spine with your head and tailbone reaching for the ground while the middle of the back reaches for the spine. (cat) Repeat for 20-30 seconds . Video 3: Bird Dog Plus In table top position, extend opposite arm and leg. Engaging the core muscles (belly button to spine), Pull your elbow and your knee under your torso and then slowly extend again. Repeat for 20-30 seconds. Repeat on opposite side Video 4 & 5: Side Plank and variations Lie on your right side, in a straight line from head to feet, resting on your forearm. Your elbow should be directly under your shoulder. With your abdominals gently contracted, lift your hips off the floor, maintaining the line. Repeat 10 to 20 times. Repeat on opposite side. Disclaimer: Each pregnancy is different so if you have any questions or apprehension about exercising, please consult with your health care provider.
