Happy #fitfriday people! . Saw Mr @shawnmozen doing this at Agatsu Montreal- Gym this week. With the blue bells. . It looked cool and challenging AF. So I thought I would give it a try. ... . Adding weight at your end range of motion is really - really - hard. Spinal alignment, tension in all the right places....lots to think about so you dont fuck it up and end up hurting yourself while trying said cool thing. . I watched Shawns video a half dozen times before even trying it with the baby pink bells. . Where do the bells go. How is he moving his spine. What is stable. What is mobile. Where is he introducing tension. . Like creeping. Only worse. . Its not the average shoulder that can do this shit. I work hard on my shoulder mobility and stability. A memorial bracelet with my late husbands ashes in it - engraved with - You cant direct the wind. But you can adjust the sails. - Wise mental health words for a suicide survivor. ... . Possibilities - red bracelet in memory of Justin Arnold - a former student who passed away cliff jumping. He touched my soul in many ways and his family helped me through my own grief. . A bracelet I had made by Front Row. Jewelry that says I can do hard things - because I fucking can. And I do. Every damn day. . And one that I had my daughter make the summer I expanded the gym. It says - Keep Fucking Going. . When I need to take them off at the gym to do kettlebell work - cleans, snatches...and other such fun games - I just tear them off and toss them on the floor in a pile - exhibit A. . But this morning when I went to light my candles for yoga - the message Keep Fucking Going was face up and glaring at me. . I dont believe in much of the happens for a reason BS that gets tossed around in life. Not a lot of widows do. And I dont do religion. . #workoutwednesday . I honestly didnt know what to post about my day. So instead I decided on a collage and some highlights. Because it was a pretty cool day. . 6am lesson - be careful what you wear - I may make you match your kettlebells to your outfit. ... . 7am with some amazing mace swings - including some sisters with cute matching shirts and maces. . Some fantastic personal training clients - including a mom and me combo flipping my 300lbs tire - we call her Roxy. Shes a dirty bitch. . Babies. Babies. Babies. Including my sweet Chelseys 6-day-old little man. Who truly made me cry. For a lot of reasons. But mostly I just love him. And I cant even give his momma burpees - yet. . Miss Mia looking stronger and making me proud AF every time she shows up. Love you bitch. . And a returning client - Miss Sophie - from mom and me...to lunch crew...and now she is a mom again...but I let her come when ever she wants. Because I know getting back to her lunch crew is vital to her mental health. Seeing her smile with her crew today and telling her to just forget about her sweet babe for 50 min while I wrap her up...priceless. Just priceless. . On the coaching side...I showed a lot of ladies how to swing a mace today. And I wore the right shirt for that - its my job to make it look easy - I heard that a lot today you make it look easy and I know it wasnt easy for everyone. But you showed up. And tried. And in the end...thats the important part. . Its been an emotional roller coaster of a day. And thats just the half of it. . I hope you moved today. I hope your job lets you feel all the feels. You can only control your reaction. . You cant control the bus cancelations. You cant control the traffic. You cant control construction closures. You cant control the ass hole that cut you off. ... You cant control technology difficulties on the other end of the computer. You cant control school re-start schedules. You cant control how others treat you. . You CAN control your reaction to all of these things. . But only if you practice when things are calm, cool and collected. You must practice your breathing when you DONT need to though. If you expect your breath to work for you when you need it most. . Being able to bring my attention back to my breath, centre, focus and calm myself is something Ive worked hard at and am very proud of. It wasnt always easy for me. . Today the world is on edge. Today it was hard to find 5 min to myself let alone find some space to breathe. Today was hard. Truth be told Im also lacking practice in my breath work. . So today I needed both movement and breath so that I could find...my centre. . Theres work to do. And Im thankful that I know what to do. And how to do it. . Just. Breathe. See more

As I was driving today an old favourite song - The Black Crowes - She talks to angels - came on the radio. . Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain comes. The pain gonna make everything alright. .... The song has a dark side. And I think we can agree that not all instances of pain make things alright. . Ive had pain that has shaken me. Changed my life. And Ive survived that. . Now I look for ways to remember and pay tribute to my story. To commemorate coming out the other side stronger. . But I also look for pain...mostly with ink and workouts. The pain of a tattoo reminds me that I can breathe through physical and mental pain and survive. And a good hard workout (properly executed) always makes everything alright. . My first sleeve is a traditional-style tattoo. A memorial tattoo. . This one....which Im leaning towards calling complete...is my story. From widow to alpha female wolf. Wounded, still and always. But unbreakable. . And the blank space....to remind me theres still plenty of story to write. My story is far from over and I get the chance to write it in whichever way I choose. . Its #workoutwednesday and I had a short simple post planned with this awesome sunrise picture. . The lady in the picture came to me over the summer session. She was a bit shy when she started. Shes opening up. Shes got some mobility and stability issues we are working on - and shes getting stronger by the day. Making people stronger is what I do. Mentally and physically. . And thats what my simple post was going to be about. A beautiful sunrise and making people stron...ger. . And then I got this message from another client who just had her father pass away. And suddenly making people stronger took on a whole new meaning... . I have to thank you, because of you I was able to take care of my dad right until the end. I was strong enough to move him and care for him. I was able to use the mindfulness stuff (That I still hate) to stay in the moment. Being able to care for him at the end has made this crappy situation a bit better. Thank you. And no freakin way should I have to do burpees for this if you cry!! . Soooo theres that. Some days Im fortunate enough to experience these kinds of emotional extremes. Fortunate because it gives me an opportunity to gain perspective. And to test my own mental strength and emotional stability. . I ask my clients to write down their why. I would be shocked if any of them write I train so I can help my family members when they are close to death. . But this is a why. Its a moving and emotional one. Life will throw you a lot of curve balls. Will you be strong enough - physically and mentally - to handle them? . Asking for a friend... . Now back to that sunrise...Ive become obsessed with them lately...and heres why...when you get into those tough spots, whatever they may be, the sunrise speaks to me. . This. This is key. . There is so much in life that you have no control over. But there is one thing you can ALWAYS control. . Your reaction. ... . Cant sleep? You can react by getting angry...or you can learn about sleep and fix your shit. . Get angry when someone cuts you off? You cant control that ass hole...but you can decide not to let it ruin your day. You can even decide to have an angry reaction or just let it slide. . How about eat when youre upset or sad or angry? So youre gonna let that emotional reaction fuck with your health? Instead of figuring out what triggered you and dealing with that in a positive and productive way? . Control. Your. Reaction. . If theres something that sets you off - like dealing with bullshit emails - then set boundaries - turn off your damn phone! Only allow the stress in when youre prepared to deal with it. Mentally. Physically. And when its not your own personal time. . Find the trigger. Learn positive alternative reactions and implement them. . You. Control. You. . And dont tell me easier said then done...because thats just a bullshit excuse... and your own lack of ability to...control your reaction!! . Thats all. Go focus on your own shit now. See more

Today I received two very different messages. One positive and very direct. One passive aggressive and negative. One a clear message of love. One a clear message of Im not really a fan of yours. . Heres the thing. A big part of my yoga training was not to get too attached to those love messages. Not to mention getting really intimate with myself - a lot of learning about who I am and how to love me. There was definitely a time that I very much needed these messages to f...eel good about myself. This is no longer the case. I enjoy the warm fuzzies. I assign burpees if the message makes me cry - rules are rules! But I no longer need any outside approval to be happy, comfortable and confident as all fucking hell. . As for the not so feel good, passive aggressive bullshit I get handed on occasion... my grief healing taught me I will not always be everyones cup of tea. That focusing on my own shit, whats best for me and my family, will sometimes lead to the loss of the relationship. Maybe even secondary losses. And this is just fine. . But Im also human. And it does sting a little. So the not-so-warm-fuzzies have me look to find ways to shake it off....or in my world, pick up the heavy shit. And then put it down. Or in this case...pick up the 100lbs slamball... and toss that motherfucker over your shoulder. . First you train the lift with not so awkward weight - uniform things like barbells. You get strong and reinforce proper body positioning - build confidence - and then you move on to harder to hold, harder to manoeuvre awkward shit. This teaches you to trust your body to move you through the tough stuff. . I had no idea when I tried this today if I was going to be able to get it up and over my shoulder to drop it. But I knew I would be able to tell if I couldnt handle it. I knew I would know when to quit. And when to push harder to accomplish my goal...that being to put that heavy ball down. . Pick it up. Put it down. Repeat. . Trust your body. Trust your mind. Dont let heaviness...wherever it comes from...get you down. . The warm message I got today...from the client who will give me 95 burpees tomorrow . Hey Coach, I wanted to say that I have always loved the garage. I mean its a place where I have had pretty much every emotion I can think of....I wanted to let you know that I noticed a change in the play list during the morning and its good. I noticed that your angry, mean or loud songs are now being replaced with more positive encouraging music. Your music is lighter and I can't help think its because you are in a happier place. September Yoga with Jodi Frances! . Jodi will be joining Round Two Fitness to deliver two of our popular specialty classes: Yoga 101 - an introduction to yoga series where you will learn the basics of yoga and poses. Sundays at 12:00pm. Prenatal Yoga - designed for women at all stages of pregnancy to relax and ease you through your baby building days. Moms enrolled in this class also get priority registration in our Mom and Me Yoga and Mom and Me Fitness programs. Sundays a...t 10:30am. . I had a bunch of ideas of what to post today....but then one of my amazing clients posted this in our private board. And with permission Im sharing with you. . We did a lot of incredible things to keep people going during shut down. And while I hope that doesnt happen again....Im also totally confident that we will rock it again if we have to. . I love being back in the flesh. But some of my clients are still doing their workouts at home. Our hybrid model and onlin...e options work very well. And we are still accepting new clients online. If youre interested give me a shout! . A little #waybackwednesday and #morninggratitude combined. . Last night I had a visit with my cousin out on my deck - for the first time since COVID started. Being immunocompromised has made this whole pandemic that much more worrisome for me. We were chatting about "what things have been like" for us since March and I was reflecting on how the Round Two crew has really been my constant through everything. The one piece of semi-normal that I could tap into from the comfort of my home when things were feeling a little out of control. . So this gratitude is for everyone who contributed to those gratitude trains, who motivated me (and others) to squeeze in a workout, who encouraged me (and others) to be kind to themselves during these weird times, and who made me (and I'm sure others lol) feel less isolated at home. My gym is my church. Its my home. . My clients are like family. . Exercise is my medicine. ... . Over the course of my birthday today I did 412 burpees. . I also exercised with my man and his little girl. I coached with my 4 year old. Worked with my 13 year old. My oldest made me the all the dinner fixings her Dad use to make me. It was a well balanced day. And yes it included cake. And wine. . Tomorrow I may be sore. But its unlikely. My cardio system handles burpees well. My mobility in both my hips and shoulders are great...which makes burpees easy for me. And Ill do enough unsquishing to make sure theres no harm done... . We dont do a ton of burpees at Round Two. They are often optional. They are always modified to suit your fitness level. Burpees get a bad rap because coaches often push people to do more than they are capable of. They are a great strength endurance exercise. They test your mobility, strength and cardio capacity. . Exercise needs to be a celebration of what your body is capable of accomplishing. Not a punishment for anything - not what you ate, not what you drank, not what youre incapable of. Done beyond your capacity youll end up with an injury. And what fucking good is that. . So maybe 412 burpees sounds crazy to you. Maybe it makes you question my sanity. I can assure you I am insane....as I often say... certifiable. . But 412 burpees is within my capability. And helped me celebrate my level of fitness at 43 years young. . It. Felt. Good. . And if you chose to participate with me or not I 100% respect your decision. And thank you for respecting where your body is at TODAY. . And that should make you love yourself a little more. . Maybe seeing my burpee fest today made you reflect on your own current fitness level. Maybe Ive inspired you. . If that happened to just one person out there in social media land...that would be the best birthday present ever. . Kinda fitting that a rainbow showed up just before my last set. See more

Aaaand Set 6 - lunch crew was kind and only asked for 43. Most notably highest participation rate of the day with 88% of the class taking part. Lunch crew is winning!!
