Mystic Wood 05.10.2020

It's been a while since I've posted anything here. This year has been pretty intense, do to losing some of the help I've had in the past, travelling a lot for shows, and looking into doing a few bigger projects! This chest was an order for a freind, and due to the size I decided to do a mortis and tenon framed exterior, this consisted of 16 structural pieces. I then built the box inside the frame work. I have to say that I really did enjoy building in this manor, because when it came time to glue and clamp everything came out square with no adjustments required. I'm sure this piece will last for many years to come!

This is the eight time this year that I've gone though this process, the third time by myself, and the first time I've recorded it! Here I am doing a full breakdown and set-up for my last festival of the year! Blades of Glory lets make this one hell of a show, this will mark the end of summer events for me!

Mystic Wood 17.09.2020

Where did the summer go? This has by far been the most hectic year I've had yet, but I will say it has been a blast! After several small shows to bring in the summer, I managed to make it to four folk festivals, and one beer festival! Now I'm finishing off my season with the Hastings Medieval Festival, the Brotherhood of the Sword. This show is put on by Bladesofglory and will be my third time attending! There will be lots of entertainment there, and it will be a great way to end this hectic but wonderful summer! Hope to see some of you there!

The concept of this piece came to me the day before the third anniversary of my dad passing. I was thinking of a poem he wrote before I was born, and it all seemed to come together. Funny enough he would have been close to my age when he wrote this. Here's some writings from a very well thought wild man. I dreamed, last night, of a wood. Where I roamed among flowerd and trees I gazed 'round about me and fleeting glimpses... Of deer and squirrels touched my eyes, The cool green leaves caressed my skin And I sat in wonder at the beauty Of this earth Revulsion as the branch I grasped Squirmed and wriggled there in my hand. And a snake of emerald green and browns Dropped to the ground and srayed, coiled. As if to strike: its eyes gazed into mine And I, stricken by fear, Dare not move. Its eyes, unmoving, spoke to me Telepathically, I think for I hear no word But saw, instead, swirling stars and galaxies And one star, bright and white, swelled To many times its size and burst In cataclysmic explosion It burst Bits and pieces and swirling gas Hurtled far and deep into black space Myriad colours flashed and painted the universe In the light of a thousand suns and then, Just as quickly, it was dark again Save for the glow of one Remaining cloud. Swirling and twisting in its agony It shrank and formed a spinning globe. I was trasported in a flash to its tortured surface And in an instant watched the evolution of Many hundreds of millions of years, The miracle of life from dust And water grown. The dream changed and again I came to the wood where I still gazed At the triangular head of the snake. His tongue flicked. The words unspoken, echoed through my mind, "We are born of the same miracle friend." And the snake went his way And I went mine. Peter C. Ferri The serpent is represented in many different ways all over the world. We have some very negative takes on it with Christianity and Norse beliefs, but in Australian aboriginal legend the rainbow serpent was a sign of fertility and life. I reached out to my friend @tadhargrave due to his connections and intrest in native American culture and he shared a very humorous tale about a native mans encounter with a baby rattlesnake, and later on the same snake as an adult. In this story the baby rattlesnake gave fair warning to watch where one steps and was not taken seriously. After a biting contest this did not end well for the man, but illustrates the importance of approaching a snake with respect and caution. Thoughout many different cultures the snake can symbolize evil, healing, cunning, wisdom, regeneration, reincarnation and prophecy. Due to all these meanings it leaves this woodburning very much open to ones own interpretation.

Hello all! It has been a long time since I posted here! Last year went like a blur, and my normally slow winter has been anything but slow. I have managed to get one more batch of mugs done that can be customized for Valentine's day! There will be a few for sale at Dahlia May Flower Farm and The ArtiZen Café also has some in stock. I have time to customize a few mugs before Thursday, so if you are buying for a beer drinker in your life send me a message!

I tend to share a lot of ideas of mine on here, but have never shared much about myself. I grew up with two very artistic parents, and I feel this was the reason I quit my job and took this path. I find there is a rich life in doing what you love, even if it doesn't pay like a 9 to 5 job. Today is my dad's birthday. Even though he has been gone for a couple years now, he's still remembered by many people. Thoughout his life he did many different things. He worked with troub...led kids, played guitar at coffee houses, did pottery, and made knives. He was an actor, a script writer, did set building and special effects. Through my childhood I remember him for his reenacting, boat building, woodworking, and drawing. That list is of the things he took seriously. His childhood started out really rough, and that stuck with him. He made some mistakes along the way that also haunted him. This brought on a lot of depression, and that could be tough for us to deal with. Though I will say the good times outweighed that, and because of him I learned to love woodworking! I made this lantern as a birthday pressent for my wife. The wood was salvaged from an antique that was falling apart, left to her by her father. The design was one of my dad's, and in true Pete Ferri fashion I built it from memory! So, here's to my dad, to all he did, and all the knowledge he passed along! See more

This was a stein I made for a fund raiser "makers for a cause" that is taking place around Valentine's day! I was approached for this because they wanted to have some options for gifts for men! Just in case anyone else is interested there is going to be a batch of these steins being made over the next few weeks!

Happy new year! Have a drink for life, and whats to come. Have a drink to the dead, and never forget. Most of all, have a drink to human kind, and let's put our differences aside and have a year of peace.

Mystic Wood 15.04.2020

Here's to peace! I've grown up knowing many people that have experienced war. Both as civilians, and as soldiers, lives were full of hardship and lose. My generation has had very little of this infuence, so It's important to listen to the stories passed down from our grand parents and parents. To learn from history and not repeat it. On remembrance day I'm sharing the peace symbol for the veterans, and for the civilians that have lost loved ones and felt the poverty and fear war has brought. This is to remember why so many sacrificed so much so we can all live in peace and comfort, and this is for the hope that peace will win out in the end. Remember.

This is my shop a week before my next show! There were around 2000 staves cut, and 120 handles and bases. The last few weeks have been an endless process of gluing, clamping, turning, and sanding. Sometimes it feels like I've taken on too much, but my brother and I always seem to be able to pull it together! Next weekend we will be at the Makes North Christmas market in Sudbury!

Sometimes broken equipment can lead to better things! This is a red oak tool rest I built to create my beer steins. The next one will be for the interior cuts!

Mystic Wood 19.03.2020

This was my most recent wood burning done as a last minute idea for a festival. I drew up this design about three years ago, and have been wanting to use it ever since. I've taken notice to a lot of talk the last year about many environmental issues, and how much we as a spieces impact things. This dark goddess figure is symbolic of the power and beauty of mother nature. In this wood burning she connects the sun and earth, which are the two things that all life as we know it starts with. This piece is to serve as a reminder of how small we are in the big picture, and how we are at the mercy of much larger forces.

"Who knows the end? What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise. Loathsomeness waits and Dreams in the deep, and decay spreads over the tottering ... cities of man." H.P. Lovecraft. H.P. Lovecraft has created a dark and strange world of stories that mostly tie together. The way he wrote about the Old Ones, and demigods such as Cthulhu have a way of being almost believable. Writings about prehistoric technologically advanced beings cheating their own extinction by projecting their minds into the future, or monsters that live between dimensions that can exist in our reality, or even the reality created by our on minds in our dreamworlds. These ideas can make one question everything we know about reality. Cthulhu has got to be the most well known character of his, and has influenced many writings. A demigod that dwells at the bottom of the ocean, and will one day rise and reclaim his world. I know since reading, and listening to many of these stories, H.P. Lovecraft's characters will always occupy a dark corner of my imagination, and I am very happy to have finally put out my first Lovecraft inspired piece!
