Yesterday our beautiful girl - KIRBY - Mysticgold's French Kiss CHIC turned 9. She is still a very active, happy girl! This picture was taken today by her owner Kelly when they were out for their daily adventure. Kirby is throughly enjoying retirement!

Todays culture is absolutely ruining dogs and as behaviourists we are seeing more and more preventable problems appearing not only at our facilities but in the public domain too! People are treating their dogs like children, and no matter how much you say it, or what you believe, they are not children. They are dogs... An apex predator with forty two teeth in their head and a bite pressure that can break bones. They deserve treating l...ike dogs! Somehow treating your dog like a dog has become a taboo subject and its because of the warped, snowflake generation that's flooding the industry. Can't say no to a dog. Can't go in cold weather with a dog. Can't let a dog get muddy. Can't give a dog a job. Can't feed a dog raw meat. If your dog is in shape its too skinny. We are walking around in a world where giving your dog a job is cruel beyond belief but having a dog 30kg overweight with diabetes falling out of its ears is absolutely fine. It's warped and twisted and wrong. They are dogs! Treat them as dogs. You cannot take any pristine animal on this earth and pretend that it's a baby. Oh hello, this is my whale, he is my baby. It doesn't work like that, and if you respect the dog, it doesn't work with them either. We have to push back on this snowflake mentality because it is literally killing dogs. Dogs are being euthanised every day purely because nobody told them what rules they were supposed to follow or because they weren't given a job they so desperately wanted. Let's start honouring our dogs for the absolutely amazing creatures they are. Dogs are magnificent, majestic, intelligent, robust. For me, they are the best animal on the planet so let's stop killing them and treat them for exactly what they are. Honour your dog. See more

I got a wonderful update late last week. This is CANDY - Mysticgold's Sweet Treat. She was one of three puppies born in one of my earliest litters. This is w...hat her owner said: " She will be 16 years old on November 1st, and doing amazing well. Alert, spunky ,super loving and the most beautiful personality one could hope for. This note was inspired by Brussels Griffion breeder Vom Egyptenmoor, she wrote something very similar. .... it needed to be said! I have reecieved 100s of inquiries for my westie and border terrier puppies in 2020. It seems everyone haa decided that this year would be a good year to get a dog. HOWEVER, just because the demand is so much higher then usual it doesn't mean that breeders are suddenly producing more puppies!!!... As a breeder it has been a very enlightening time. During the COVID months puppies have been in even higher demand and not many have been willing to wait - or people have felt entitled to be guaranteed a puppy out of one of my planned litters. Even ahead of people who have already been waiting months I have made every effort to be honest and upfront about the fact that breeding is biology,, it is controlled by nature, I have zero control over the number or sex of puppies conceived in any given litter. That is to say, I breed two dogs and hope for the best result with every litter. I am driven by purpose and passion for my breeds which is why, while I plan to have litters, sometimes nature throws rocks my way... or several, big, rocks. Bitches don't conceive, puppies reabsorb, deadly viruses surface, there may only be a singleton puppy, or I may decide that the puppy is better suited for a certain type of home due to his/her temperament or qualities I never make any guarantees on the availability of a puppy until after he/she has been seen by my vet for a health clearance at around 8 weeks of age. Some people are frustrated by this fact,, however, they should instead be glad that my desire is to offer them a HEALTHY, happy puppy. With breeds that have small litters (average 3-5 puppies) like mine, it is important that people be patient. VERY patient, as it may take months before a puppy is available. My puppies have a proven pedigree and a known genetic history of health and quality. I am proud of the puppies I produce and I do not feel obligated to anyone. I have every right to say no to a person if I do not wish to sell them one of my puppies, as they have every right to choose which breeder they wish to work with. It goes both ways !!! Over the past 30 years I have sold puppies to many, many wonderful people and families I plan to continue to do so. But if people can not be patient and expect a puppy instantly then there is no need to contact me. I cannot "pull a puppy out of a drawer" for them. It just doesn't work that way When it comes to wanting a puppy from any REPUTABLE breeder patience is truly a virtue! Especially in 2020. .

October 29, 2003 - August 20, 2020 Below are the note and pictures I received from her owners yesterday: "Thank you for giving us the almost 17 years of loving companionship of our dog, Shona, who passed away last week. She was loved by everyone who met her. She will be sadly missed" I clearly remember the day they came to get Shona. It was one of my very first westie litters. She was the only litternate to Daisy and Tory who both went on to contribute greatly to my breeding program. Rest in peace sweet girl
