A neat piece of history today... this is one of 9 of Sioux’s babies (our mare who lived until 35 years).... we sold her as a young mare under saddle to a family... in BC, and she has since gone on to quite an impressive history, landing in a permanent home with a great family! Thank you to a client who just happened to recognize her magazine cover, and reconnected us to her current owners so neat to see home raised babies years later. #breedingprogram #history #hunterjumper #andalusiancrosses See more

Marion Coakes (Mould) and the brilliant Stroller. So many have asked me to post Marion and Stroller again. What can I say about this unique and amazing combinat...ion that has not been said already? Marion was born on June 6th, 1947. Her father Ralph, a farmer from Hampshire bought Stroller as an eight year old. He was part of a job lot from Ireland. Marion's brothers, John and Douglas Coakes also competed on the British Junior Show Jumping Team. At the age of 16 when her junior career was coming to an end, Ralph wanted to replace Stroller with a horse, however, Marion said no, she was not willing to let Stroller go. In just her second season with this amazing little pony with the heart of a lion, (I swear he thought he was a horse) together they won the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Royal International Horse Show. That same year, they also won three Nations Cup's helping Great Britain win the President's Cup. In 1964 Marion won the Hickstead Derby Trial and placed second to Seamus Hayes riding Goodbye in the Hickstead Derby, and the following year Marion rode Stroller to a gold medal in the ladies World Championship at Hickstead. She won the 1967 Hickstead Derby, placed second in 1968 and third in 1970. Marion and Stroller competed at the 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics in both the team and the individual jumping events. In the individual jumping she won an Olympic silver medal. That day, they rode over the biggest show jumping course ever built and beat all but one taking the individual Olympic Silver Medal. In 1970, they won the Hamburg Derby with a clear roundthe fiftieth recorded on the course and the first time by a female rider. That year Stroller was the leading show jumper of the year at the Horse of the Year Show. Following Stroller's retirement, Marion continued to jump and won the Queen Elizabeth II Cup again in 1976 while riding a new mount, Elizabeth Ann. Stroller died of a heart attack at the age 36 in 1986, after 15 years of happy retirement. He is buried at Barton-on-Sea Golf Club, New Milton, Hampshire, England. In 2006, Marion Coakes was inducted into The British Horse Society Equestrian Hall of Fame. She married the jockey, David Mould, in 1969 the former jockey to the Queen Mother and now lives with him and son Jack in the New Forest. Here are a couple of super photograph of Marion and Stroller competing together at the Mexico Olympics where they won the individual Silver Medal! You can see the enormity of the fences and how big the water jump was. Little Stroller is going around with his ears pricked enjoying every moment of it. The absolute Lion hearted pony that always believed he was a seventeen hand horse. I am also proud to say that Harvey Smith along with Paddy McMahon wrote the forwards on my book, "The Golden Age of Show Jumping" available at your local bookstore. If they don't have it, they will order it for you or go to amazon.com thank you!
