It is with extremely heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Joe Nadon Sr.- a loving family man, a devoted business owner, and a proud community member. He will be greatly missed by so many. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of his greatest life achievements including attending George Brown College to become a watchmaker, where he was appointed President of student council. Over the years, Joe volunteered countless hours of work as President o...f the Kapuskasing Kinsmen Club. He was passionate about local businesses and was a founding director of the Chamber of Commerce. Joe was instrumental in the building of the new Sensenbrenner Hospital and was Chairman of the board throughout its conception. During his time on the board, he also played a large role in the construction of our local Doctor’s Clinic. Joe went on to sit on the Fundraising Committee, helping to raise money to build the new wing at the North Centennial Manor where he later sat on the committee to help advocate for the residents. Furthermore, Joe sat on town council, also serving as the Deputy Mayor for a period of time. He was later a member of the Kap Team who flew to Toronto to meet with Bob Ray and other government officials to help save the Spruce Falls Mill. Finally, and perhaps most significantly, Joe was a founding member of the Canadian Jewellery Group, Canada‘s largest independent buying group with over 100 stores across Canada. This was quite an accomplishment for a small, independent store owner from Northern Ontario. We’d like to take this time to thank you all for the love and support this community has shown him and our family throughout the years. We look forward to honouring his legacy for years to come. We would like to take a moment to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Power, the staff at Sensenbrenner Hospital, as well the staff at North Centennial Manor who looked after Joe Sr. with such kindness, professionalism, and dedication. Joe spoke highly of his caregivers over the years which is something we are truly thankful for and will always remember. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the outpouring of love over the past week; from the messages, calls ...and visits to the cards, flowers and food.
