Cause of skin dryness #2 Light (Sun light / Blue light) Solution #2... Protect your skin from the light, include anti-oxidant food in your meals and keep your skin moisturized. 5 days ago, we had our first snow and it felt like winter but after that, we’ve been having beautiful sunny days, FALL IS BACK! Today was my no-makeup day but this morning when I went for a coffee at a patio with my friend, I made sure I wore Sunscreen which I probably would have forgotten if it were a cold and cloudy day. The sun's radiation reaches us here on Earth in the form of UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays account for up to 80 percent of the UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface.(No matter how thick those clouds look in the winter) You might not have to worry about sun burn much in the winter caused by UVB. But you should be careful about the damage that can be caused by UVA. Since UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, exposure can cause photoaging. (wrinkles, age spots, liver spots, decreased elasticity, uneven skin tone, etc)and the worst part about UVA is that it even penetrates through window glass!!! So you have to protect your skin from it! Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has about SPF 30 with moisturizing ingredients every single day. Another light that is all around us is blue light - emitted from phones, laptops, and flat-screen TVs. Research shows that excessive blue light may trigger skin aging by penetrating deeply into its layers, inducing oxidative stress and mitochondrial DNA damage, leading to hyperpigmentation and collagen breakdown. Try not to use your cell phone at least 30 min before going to bed to get better sleep and remember to east anti-oxidant rich food such as Berries, Sweet Potatoes, Turmeric, Dark leafy greens and nuts. In the next post, we will introduce products which specialize in battling photoaging!! Be sure to enjoy this great weather while it lasts! #skincare #dryskin #fallskintrouble #stayhomeskincare #selfcare #aloevera #japanesefacial #facial #acupuncture #chineseherbs #natural #####bloorwestvillage #torontospa #torontofacial

Solution #1 Investing in a humidifier. It will be your best stay home friend! It is common for people to feel dryness, roughness or sensitivity on their skin in the autumn season (wait, it is already winter?!? it snowed!!).... Cold air is dry air. As air cools, the humidity levels drop and it loses its ability to retain moisture which means you are going to be losing moisture as well. Addition to that, you have to heat your house which the air inside is drying up. The best humidity for the skin is about 60%. With the heat (furnace), it is hard to keep that moisture content in the air. Research found that even a drop in humidity of just 30 per cent can lead to the formation of fine wrinkles in as little as 30 minutes. Furthermore, low humidity can cause decreased skin elasticity, increased skin roughness and may worsen some skin disorders. One of the easiest ways to arm yourself is to invest in a humidifier especially this year in that many of you are working from home. Perhaps a mini portable humidifier for your desk. Even just hanging a wet towel will increasing the moisture in the air which will help prevent your skin from drying out. Try to keep the humidity at least 40 to 50%. This could also help prevent you from experiencing fall allergies or a sore throat!! Stay safe and strong! #skincare #dryskin #fallskintrouble #stayhomeskincare #selfcare #aloevera #japanesefacial #facial #acupuncture #chineseherbs #natural #####bloorwestvillage #torontospa #torontofacial

Hi, Everyone! We hope you are having a good halloween weekend! I took my 6 and 9 year olds to explore the neighbourhood decorations and did a candy hunt at home. The trick or treating might have been canceled this year but the halloween sprit was still there! Normally about this time of the year, October and November, we get busy with Facials, and Facial acupuncture services since many of you feel that your skin is dehydrated from sun damage over the summer and dryness fro...m the dropping temperature and humidity. In Chinese Medicinal study, the organs associated with the autumn season are the Lungs and the Large Intestine. So during this time of the year your body is more susceptible to dryness. Dry skin, dry throat (dry coughs) and constipation tend to be more frequent. Since we have been wearing masks this year, you might be feeling more dryness or irritation on your skin than usual. This week, we will be posting about stay home skin care since we are still not able to accommodate you for Facials and Facial acupuncture treatments! We really hope to see you all soon! Stay safe and strong!

To prevent Maskne (which is acne that tends to form in areas covered by a mask due to friction and moist, humid environments with skin oils and sweat.) Give extra special care to your skin. 1. Cleansing is very important. Choose a gentle cleanser which also has hydrating ingredients (perhaps ph balanced). When you are applying the cleanser, use your finger tips focusing especially on the area covered by a mask. If you are using soap or washing foam, make a fluffy foam, ... gently wash your face with luke warm water and pat dry with clean towel 2. Apply moisturizer immediately after you clean your face. Choose light weight products such as gel, or serum with anti-inflammatory properties. (You don’t want to clog your pores with heavy weight products). Look for a moisturizer with aloe vera and tea tree oil to help calm your skin and heal marks from friction and irritation. 3. Choose the right size mask so it’s fits well and doesn’t slip. 4. Keep your mask as clean as possible. If you are using a disposable mask, discard it after use. If your skin is already breaking out or your skin is very sensitive, maybe change more often. If you are using a reusable mask, wash it every day. I wash it by hand at night so it is dry by morning. 5. No make up or wear it light. It is better to wear no make up or apply it light. As for the sunscreen check the ingredients to look for a sunscreen with hydrating and anti-inflammatory effects. I spray my face with a mist I made with aloe vera juice, Witch Hazel (facial toner) and tea tree oil (which is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial) once in a while if I have to wear a mask for a long time. Your skin is already under a lot of stress lately. Do the tapping, faceyoga for relaxing the facial muscle and for circulation. Go to bed early to give a skin a care to recover. Thank you for reading! Stay safe and Have a good day!

Having skin trouble lately? Having breakouts, rash or extremely dry around your mouth, nose or cheek? It might be coming from wearing masks (as well as other factors, like stress, lack of sleep or changing of the season). ... Before this pandemic, it wasn’t so common to wear masks. But now people wear it when they go out shopping, and some wear 8 hours or more straight when they are required to wear PPE at work. Wearing a mask it not very comfortable especially going into summer, and it is not a comfortable situation for your skin as well, but is a necessary evil. it is possible that the mask can cause skin irritation and acne breakouts, according to a dermatology expert at Baylor College of Medicine. They are 2 reasons which might be causing the trouble on your skin. One is Friction and the other is Stuffiness When your facial muscles move or the mask is maybe too big and slips all the time, it rubs against your skin and damages the skin barrier. Your skin barrier helps protect you in many ways, but friction, rubbing underneath a mask can cause the skin barrier to break down. The reason 2 is that masks create a humid environment that traps sweat, oil, and bacteria on the skin which can be the cause of acne in the form of whiteheads, red bumps, and pustules in the areas of skin covered by the mask (Maskne) I made DIY face mist with aloe vera juice, Witch Hazel (facial toner) and tea tree oil (anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial) for a little skin care after taking off my mask. I will post some tips on how to avoid skin irritation from wearing a mask soon. Thank you for reading!! Have a happy Monday! #skintreatment #maskne #skincare #skincareathome #facial #massage #acupuncture #RMT #tcm

We have been getting many inquiries asking when we are reopening. We just got news from the province that some health care professionals can slowly start providing their services and RMT and Acupuncturists are on the list. We still need some time to put all necessary and required protocols and procedures in place along with guidance from the respective colleges of practitioners.... Thank you for your ongoing patience. Stay safe. The Nagomi team.
