Hello wonderful followers. I know I haven’t been very consistent with updating my page. I have been struggling with mental illness for quite a while now. It has recently caused a huge upset and life change for me. I’ve needed to take a step back from doing nails during this ongoing struggle, but I’m working on getting my health back on track. Unfortunately it’s not something that can be rushed. It is my goal to get back into doing nails. I really love being a nail tech, and... I really miss all my nail peeps and clients. I hope to be able to start practising on real people soon to eventually make my way into taking clients again. Please be patient with me and my recovery as my journey brings me back. I appreciate all the views and likes I’m still receiving despite my absence. It helps to remind me to keep moving forward. Thank you and all the best to you, my followers. Rae

#MasterTipMonday: STOP CAPPING THE FREE EDGE WITH YOUR GEL! Masterworks firmly and strongly believes in the importance of NOT capping your edges! There is mor...e than one way to prevent separation while also keeping nails strong and natural in appearance. Here’s what our Director of Education Kira The Nailtique has to say about our filing techniques: At Masterworks Gels, we teach reasons why nail stylists should file the length and shape at the free edge of the nails at the END of the service, after polishing and applying sealant. Because gel pulls back and shrinks as it is cured, it becomes thinner at the tip of the free edge. As you look down the barrel of the nail, the tip thickness is considerably thinner than the rest of the nail. If you shorten before, it stays thinner than the rest of the nail, which may lead to peeling or chipping on the ends. However, if you shorten after the sealant, the thickness of the nails stay the same down the barrel and the tip thickness can be controlled by thinning them from underneath. Photos 1 & 2 are of the same fingers. Finger A has been cured in both photos. Finger B in photo 1 has gel applied to it before being cured, while in photo 2, Finger B has gel after being cured. You can see how much it shrunk! Once I have applied polish and top coat, I file the length and shape to get rid of the bubbled edge. After removing the bubbled edge, I use my efile at a 45 degree angle underneath the nail to refine the tip thickness. This ensures the most natural look of nails while not comprising the strength. You can see how natural they look in photos 3 & 4. We would love to hear your questions and comments! Thanks for tuning in to our #MasterTipMonday.
