November is National Adoption Month. We are primarily a foster care program, but this year and previous years we have had several of our foster parents adopt children. While we celebrate when this happens and recognize the beauty of adoption, we are also aware of the complexity. Adopt4life shared a video titled: flip the script on National Adoption Month. They said, "We've focused too easily on the feel-good images of adoption. Adoption is messy and complicated. It starts with trauma and loss. It can be beautiful, when healing happens, and adoptees are heard and respected". We wanted to share a video, from adoptees on the value of #flippingthescript and recognizing all parts of adoption. https://youtu.be/SdgZ2N44V0s #nationaladoptionmonth #flipthescript #fostercare #fostertoadopt

Some tips from Tutor Doctor on how to build emotional resilience in kids. What do you think? Do you do any of these already? Do you have a favourite?
Have you ever heard the words "I hate you!!" come from one of your children? Although it can be hurtful in the moment, if we take some deep breaths and allow some reflection, we might be able to get to the bottom of what our child really means... Take a look at the graphic below by The Peaceful Parent for some great insight.

On October 27 we remind ourselves why individuals and community organizations need to step in and help vulnerable children and youth. On Dress Purple Day, we commit to speak up for every child and youth’s right to safety and well-being in all spaces. Adults need to step in and help kids who are dealing with neglect, physical and sexual abuse, gender-based violence, dating violence, and emotional abuse, including racism, intolerance, prejudice, and discrimination. This right applies everywhere at home and in the community. Learn more about how you can support the campaign at www.oacas.org/dresspurpleday/.
