Trick-or-Treating on Halloween is celebrated vibrantly throughout Greater Orlando, Florida, but there is a special allure of the region’s New Urbanist, master-planned communities that has routinely drawn thousands of visitors on Oct. 31 to enjoy the communal experience that great #placemaking and #urbandesign can cultivate. The 1,100-acre, mixed-use Baldwin Park neighborhood near downtown Orlando (pictured) has been ranked among the 12 best neighborhoods in the U.S. for tric...k-or-treating, according to HomeUnion Research Services. Celebration (pictured), is a 10.7-square-mile master-planned community established in the early 1990s by The Walt Disney Company. Density of homes per block, wide sidewalks and rear-entry homes that bring large front porches close to the sidewalk make these communities attractive to kids, who know they can hit more homes for candy in a given hour than in their common suburban neighborhoods. Parents agree to drive there on arguably the busiest night of the year in part because of the ample street parking, and significant acreage dedicated to parks and green space. The shared experience that great #placemaking and #urbandesign cultivates has helped drive home value appreciation in Baldwin Park and Celebration to regularly lead the Orlando MSA.
