In loving Memory of Nakita

Nakita Foundation 13.01.2021

Sadly, Nakita passed away on June 17, 2013. I wish to thank all those people that supported Nakita and her battle with cancer. Your kindness and support gave her 3 more loving years with us. It allowed her to say goodbye to Huggie, and to raise a little puppy named Bruno to become a loving and caring member of our family. Hopefully soon the Nakita foundation will resume with official status to help other desperate dog and cat owners in their time of need. In the meantime, th...ere are many great stories out there on how man benefits from our special relationship with our furry friends. Here is one that recently aired on W5 regarding dogs and their special relationship with war veterans. I hope you watch it and send your support to those organizations that are doing wonderful things. That would be Nakita's final wish. http://www.ctvnews.ca//dog-tags-takes-on-new-meaning-in-pr

I wasn't sure where to post this, but hopefully my friends and pet owners will spot it. Occasionally, out here in the countryside, my dogs get a mild case of sarcoptic mange. I have in the past, went via the vet route, but considering most of them will insist on skin scrapings (which often are negative), blood test, and then use a series of harsh/toxic chemical dips, and oral treatments like Ivermectin. If you have multiple dogs, this treatment can easily run up to $1,000.00..., I have recently explored a home remedy, using a saturated borax/hydrogen peroxide treatment. Its seems to be extremely effective, and costs under $2.00 per treatment. Basically take a 450 ml bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide, dilute it with 2 equal parts of warm water, and then dissolve in roughly one cup of Borax. Keep adding the Borax until the liquid can no longer dissolve the borax,( you may need to shake the bottle and wait a few minutes and continue on, you are making a super saturated solution). Give your dog a normal shampoo, then generously apply ( I use a 2 lt pop bottle with a hole in the cap) the "solution" to your dog, rubbing it into the skin. DO NOT RINSE OR DRY your dog. The solution needs to "work". Let your dog air dry, and yes , you'll probably find a chalky powder on the animal once dry....Perfect. Yes, it's a bit messy , but i simply lay down a clean bed sheet and let the dog's dry off ( a good chew bone keeps them occupied). You can supplement treatment by adding some fish oil to their diet Here is a link for additional reading http://dogmange.wordpress.com/borax-with-hydrogen-peroxide/

Here is a head up to people considering donating to the Montreal SPCA. Several years ago, the SPCA sign a deal with a marketing firm ( Quadriga Art LLC), that has resulted in 97 % of donated money never made it to the SPCA. This has been discussed on CNN many times, and the charities are also involved in several other "scams", including Baghdad Pups, a charity that is supposed to reunite dogs with their military handlers back home, and Noah's Wish, a charity set up to help an... animal victim of Katrina. Less than .3%, that's right, three percent, actually go to the charity, which of course takes their cut, the rest goes to Quadriga Art, the marketing firm. Out of the 26 million dollars SPCA International raised last year, less than a couple of thousand dollars actually ever had an impact on an animal in need. This needs to change, people with good hearts need a place that will actually use their donations for the good of animals. Hopefully soon, the Nakita Foundation will be registered, with a promise to donators, that over 90% ( 10% operating costs), will go to animal care. I plan to make the Nakita Foundation 100% transparent, where people can see the inflow and outflow of monies, in real-time, on the internet. We do not need the assistance of greedy marketing companies that swallow up all the funds, we can use the power of Facebook to spread the word, and to generate donations that will indeed go to animals in need. This is possible, it only takes a few volunteers, willing to help. Imagine how much good could have been done for animals in need, if in fact, they received 26 million dollars rather than some greedy marketing company and their management lining their pockets. If you are interested in getting involved, write me at [email protected] You will not be paid, it is strictly a volunteer effort, but together we can create a charity that will deliver its promise.
