What supplements you should be taking. This is one of the most confusing topics in the nutrition world, and a question that I get asked almost daily. So, let me drop some of the real-real on ya:... Supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry. Never forget this. They're marketed to be appealing and evoke a sense of necessity. I used to be a self-proclaimed vitaholic - taking all the vitamins, without any real purpose except for general health. Anyone else? Or was it just me? General health sounds pretty good though, right? Wrong. Taking various supplements without a purpose gives a false sense of being healthy. It takes away from your ability to listen to your body's true needs. And you may begin to rely on them and neglect your nutrition as a whole. I know, I know. It's tempting to buy the latest pills and powders that promise you X result because Jane Shmayne claims she lost 30 pounds in 14 days. But what are they actually doing for YOU? So, before jumping on the supplements train, there are a few questions to ask yourself: What’s your reason for taking this supplement? Are there any foods you can focus on to increase your nutrition instead? What about the quality? (Low quality and synthetic supplements often go undigested and you basically pee your money away!) And finally, who told you that you needed them? Were they qualified, and were they aware of your health history?
