Nanaimo Casual Hockey League 25.01.2021

Fellow NCHLers, B.C.’s ban on social gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic has been extended until midnight on Feb. 5, 2021. Hockey is still not allowed and our season is officially over. We will start issuing refunds shortly. Once again, I'd like to thank the board members who put in a lot of hours trying to get this season going. ... NCHL President, Kyle Hains

Fellow NCHLers, As most of you probably already know the province of British Columbia has shut down adult sports and more importantly........hockey. We are not sure when hockey will be back. But either way, our effort towards playing next week has come to an end. I am not sure what is going to happen. We could cancel the season or postpone it for the time being? The board will make that decision in the coming weeks.... Either way I'd like to thank the board for all the time and effort trying to get the NCHL back on the ice. This has been an incredibly difficult season to try and plan/organize. Also, as some of you have noticed. These emails have not been coming from the same place as usual. We have not been using our website(Teamopolis) to send emails because Shaw emails have not been going through. We tried to phone and were told that there is nothing we can do, but the recipients would have to phone Shaw to resolve the matter. We will be going back to using the website very soon, so if you have a Shaw email address you will have to switch it or not receive our emails. In order to switch to another email address you will have to contact Andre or myself to change it for you. This is truly not how I wanted my final season as president to go. But moving forward, we will get back on the ice sooner or later......... Kyle Hains NCHL President www.nanaimocasualhockey.ca

Gentlemen, We just wanted to give you all an update of where things currently stand with the league as it seems to be changing daily. After sending out the rosters we have heard back from several players that would like to opt out of the season as a result of the increasingly growing Covid numbers. Consequently we are needing to re evaluate what we are doing moving forward. We are looking at several options including reducing the number games played in order to not operate... at a loss. We do not want to charge players additional fees, so playing less games is currently one of the only viable options. Unfortunately we seem to be losing players daily and we're not sure how many more there are to come which is making planning very difficult. Health and safety is our number one priority. Given the growing Covid numbers and the fact we may now play less games for the same cost, we would like to offer players a final opportunity to decide to opt out. While numbers have increased and leagues in Nanaimo are pausing, hockey has not been shut down and we still have the go ahead to play. Until told otherwise we would still like to attempt to play out a season to give those that want to play the opportunity to do so. In order to do so however, we need to know exactly how many guys want to play so we can make a plan. Please email me to let me know by Friday the 27th at 9:00pm PST whether you want to opt out. If I do not hear back from you, we will proceed that you are willing to play and that there may be a reduction in games. No refunds will be considered or issued to anybody deciding to opt out after that time. The only reason a refund would be issued would be if we get shut down by the city. We are aware that this is upsetting news to a lot of you that are tired of the pandemic and just want to play hockey. We are trying to make the best of an unpleasant situation and feel it's important to respect people's hesitancy in playing with cases starting to rise.

Team Reps and Players, Game play begins on Wednesday, December 2nd. The schedule will be posted on the site shortly and will be posted only 1 month at a time as that is how the city is issuing ice. We are going to have eight teams within two cohorts. Cohort 1... Bangers Rhinos Renegades Lucky Cohort 2 Hornets Hitmen Stickmen Chiefs We are allowed to have some spare goalies within each cohort, so we are currently working on that. Also all goalies including players who play in goal will be able to spare within their cohort. There will be no true spare players in order to keep cohorts as small as possible. Every roster player will be able to spare within their cohorts. There will be no 35 rule or specific spare rules. That being said please try and spare players with similar ratings. We know that may not always be possible but we want to avoid sparing high rated players for low rated players. Try and ice a team that will be competitive with the other team. If you are continually destroying other teams, we will consider making player trades. Keep in mind there are no standings or points being tracked. We will not be keeping stats however, major penalties will be treated just as seriously as always. The three penalty rule will also still apply. The goal is to play competitive fun hockey. We may run into some pretty low numbers at times and hopefully we will be able to ice teams at all times. These are difficult times but we will have to try our best. There will be no paper gamesheets which means, all team reps will be required to do game reports of the players that played as soon as possible. The night of the game ideally, but by the next morning at the latest. A week is not acceptable this season. This is important for contact tracing. Team rosters will be sent out to reps shortly. They will contact you as soon as they are able. Reps and teams this year are based on the teams that had the highest number of returning players.
