Modeling nerves inside a vertebra. Here, you can also see an ovoid change coined 'Modic'. In 1988, a radiologist named Michael Modic saw these MRI findings and wrote about it. These vertebral changes are thought to occur when there is too much compression resulting in a depressurization of the adjacent disc. A balanced approach between compression and decompression should always be our spinal goal. Space, the spinal frontier. JF
I have created a couple of pop-up Opportunities for the upcoming weeks - as well as a 5 week workshop series in January. We are also almost ready to let you... know about an intensive Weekend experiential On-line Training; Transformational Pathways In healing - Part 1. We will be offering this on-line opportunity beginning the first week-end of February. We all have experienced opportunities, when growing up, to blame ourselves for the behaviours of those around us (we also blame others). Blaming ourselves and others lowers our self-esteem. We have learned patterns, beliefs, rules, expectations and coping strategies that kept us alive while growing up. This is excellent creativity on our part; perhaps you now find those same coping strategies are keeping you from living your best life. In order to embrace self-compassion in our adult lives, we can transform what limits us and keep what does not, as we learn to thrive. Please feel free to spread the word. A few comments from former participants include: "I am so excited... a very good experience... opened my mind... felt safe & supported... gained new tools and perspectives... most definitely recommend... check this out. ... Judi's groups are informative, enjoyable, insightful, and transformative. Thank-you for your support and commitment to your own wellness. Happy Holidays, Judi The ‘pop-up’ womans group beginning next wed. The two week pop-up’ self- care Holiday workshop Upcoming five week - Tuesday night workshops in Jan
"Jingle bones, jingle bones, jingle all the way" Wishing you and your family the best of the holidays. Thank you for entrusting me with your care. ... See you in 2021! JF
Slow deep breathing helps with pain and stress. In this study they found that slow expiration was helpful (biased exhale breathing). Lots of fun science to explore. And good to have some natural techniques to get us through this winter. https://www.sciencedirect.com//a/abs/pii/S152659002030002X
We are beating this thing. Stay the course Vancouver Island!
A little bit of an overkill on filtering air but rest assured that you'll be entering my treatment room with clean air. True-HEPA filters down to 0.3 microns.

Tie day = citation day. #Science moving us forward.
It is what I hoped for other researchers taking notice of the work my team did in 2010. This is a biggy, in my opinion, published in Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, looking at the offloading exercise that all my patients are likely familiar with. It is straightforward to do, and it is starting to look like it helps with chronic back pain. I had this hunch years ago, and nice to see others investigating and adding something to it to incorporate abdominal bracing. Plant the scientific seeds, and innovation can follow. #lowbackpain #lowerbackpain https://journals.sagepub.com/d/abs/10.1177/0018720820966082
So lucky to have a team of educators behind me.
A third-year UBC engineering student that I know is looking for nurse and administration feedback. I said I would post it here for him. We are a group of engineering and business students at UBC investigating scheduled drug deliveries to patients in hospitals. We are looking to talk to nurses and hospital administrators to get more insight into this topic. If you’re interested in discussing this please email or text us at [email protected] or +1 (250) 681-0819
Sacrifice remembered. Thank you!

Notice: Masks are now required when you come in for a visit. The Ministry of Health is pushing us to encourage surgical or medical masks. If you don't bring your own, I will have one on hand for you! These are the common blue ones. We can do this Nanaimo!

Consistent, clear messaging from the top. And compliance from the people. A simple thank you from the Prime Minister.

This is something I have hoped for others looking at this simple strategy to offload your joints for better health. These researchers (Indian Journal of Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy . Jan-Mar2020, Vol. 14 Issue 1, p83-87. 5p) compared my dynamic sitting exercise to a popular pose that looks like the cobra in Yoga. Both movements helped with low back pain and quality of life. However, the dynamic sitting exercise performed significantly better. The important point that I wanted to share is that it only took 7.5 minutes per week, doing this exercise to achieve the results. Yes, only 7.5 minutes of active exercise per week! Over the years, I have seen that a little offloading goes a really long way in reducing back pain. It has only taken me 20 years to get the message out, but it is happening. #lowerbackpain #ergonomics

It is fun when you see other researchers looking into the dynamic seated exercise I measured in 2010. They compared it to the popular McKenzie prone exercise in those with lower back pain. These researchers published their work in the Indian Journal of Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy . Jan-Mar2020, Vol. 14 Issue 1, p83-87. 5p. Their conclusions: 6 weeks of dynamic sitting and spinal extension exercise can prevent pain and improvement in lumbar mobility and quality of li...fe in adults with mechanical low back pain. #pain #lowerbackpain #sitting #exercise #chiropractic #research https://www.drfryer.ca/dynamic-sitting-exercise/
