Nanaimo Power and Sail Squadron 13.11.2020

Nanaimo Power and Sail Squadron Your squadron continues to adapt to the COVID-19 situation. Below are upcoming courses being offered online in 2021 A great Christmas gift for your Boating friends or family... Boating 2 and 3 Combined Wednesdays starting January 13, 2021 for 12 weeks In the second of our Boating Series, Boating 2, you are introduced to the art of navigation, anchoring, ropes, lines and knots not to mention what to expect when the boat is moving under power. This course also has a number of optional topics that will be taught depending on local interests; these include tides and currents and a check list for layup and launch. Boating 3, the third course in our series, explores navigation further as you learn how to plot and label on paper charts. As well, you will learn what the skipper should do before setting out and when under way; handling a boat under sail; your environmental responsibilities; and some electrical hazards. These two courses are combined in this session and will give each student essential information for when operating a vessel at sea. Once again the weather gods smiled upon our Squadron. It rained all day Saturday and on Monday, but Sunday was a lovely day to take out Boating 3 students out on the water to put their classroom skills to practical use. They still had their smiles on, on Monday evening for their test. A HUGE thanks to our skippers for providing their vessels and the proctors for their tutelage.

Santa's wee elf showed up at last night's Christmas dinner. She's quite the poet.
