Did you know .... One of the vaccines babies get is the Rotavirus vaccine! The vaccine is given at age 2 months, 4 months and 6 months. The vaccine protects against more than 3 out of 4 types of Rotavirus. ... The vaccine is given orally (no needle ) . . . What is Rotavirus?! Rotavirus is a nasty virus that can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea! . it can also cause stomach pain and fevers Rotavirus can also be called gastroenteritis or the stomach flu. Many other viruses can also cause vomiting and diarrhea as well. Most children will get a rotavirus infection before the age of 5 years old. Rotavirus is spread through touching stools (poop) of an infected person! It is important to wash hands thoroughly with soap! Anyone with vomiting or diarrhea should stay home for at least 48 hours after last symptom. Babies and young children are at most risk of severe complications of rotavirus such as dehydration , hospitalization , and death. Got questions? Call to speak with a nurse at 250-755-3388.
