FIRE AND ICE Once again a part of the Opposite/Contrast competition, this image was a concept that evolved with photoshop manipulation. The concept was basic to start. Using a Candle Holder that resembles an ice cube, I started with just a plain image. A single point of flame within an apparent block of ice. However, the hole for the candle was too obvious, and the image had no drama. So, I merged the image with a photo of a bonfire and then worked some Photoshop ...blending, cloning and masking... and Voila! I would like to revisit this concept as my PS skills advance, but it was a fun experiment. By the way, this image landed me Second Place in the digital category.... BALANCED CONTRAST Keeping the theme of the last couple of days, playing with studio lighting and contrast So much more to play with this concept, but this is one of those shots that I was extremely pleased by the final result. ONE OF THESE THINGS While looking for things to shoot in a home studio set up a couple of years ago for the same "Opposites or Contrast" competition, I played around with a few things. Not sure where this idea came from, Just needed to find something that stood out in juxtaposition. The studio lighting worked very well (I just with I could remember what I used!) This was a surprising success to me, including receiving an honourable mention in a local club competition.... BEAUTIFUL CONTRAST Sharing a very special piece that was taken a couple of years ago. The image was created because of an impending Photo Competition with the theme of CONTRAST. This image is special for a variety of reasons. The rocks were gifts to me from my sister in law, and the other side of them depict the words LOVE and COURAGE. The feather was a gift from my friend Irene, and is from STORM, her first African Grey Parrot. This image that not preconceived, it j...ust presented itself as I looked around for inspiration within my surroundings. In retrospect, this image represents so many things. Experimentation (with table top home studio imagery), Gifts (from people who mean the world to me), Beauty (how opposites can merge together - hard vs soft, Ground vs Air etc), Trust (in my vision, my and my passion), and Acceptance (this image adorns Irene's wall, and was also an Honorable Mention in the 2019 RRex Photo Competition! ) Looking at it today inspires me - something that I have been lacking lately. PINAWA PANO During my trip to the Old Pinawa Dam, I snapped this 4-shot pano. The morning light was rich and warm, giving the old dam a lovely golden glow, and the sky cleared just in time to add a vibrant contrast. The old dam is nicely reflected, and sandwiched between the vivid blue, from the sky, and from the reflection in the water.
