Just for amusement, I came across this poem about a road trip a few years ago. And yes, it is all true. So We Decided to Drive Through The Okanagan So we decided to drive through the Okanagan last August Seemed like a good idea at the time... Went the long way, Calgary to White Fish Montana So we could drive the Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park Things going well, hotter than the hubs of Hell though Spectacular views over the summit, beautiful drive by Lake MacDonald Lots of odd named towns, Hungry Horse for one Still hotter than the hubs of Hell and no hotel rooms in White Fish. Finally, find a fleabag motel off the beaten path Looks like a setting for horror movie, but we survive the night Head north for British Columbia, come down off the dry desert cliffs Overlooking Ossoyos, Hell has gotten even hotter Finally get super driver husband to stop in Kelowna Set out in the morning, drive north by Lake Okanagan No sign of legendary sea creature Ogopogo Stop in Revelstoke for lunch and then coffee at Tim Horton’s This is where things really start to go south The intrepid Intrepid, with 390,000 kilometers on it Sighs and quits while in the Tim Horton’s drive thru Hmmmmm, husband walks to drive thru window and gets coffee Then we push dead car out of line up and into parking spot Did I mention it was hotter than the hubs of Hell? Forty degrees celcius Call AMA, young kid shows up, no tow truck, bangs on gas tank with hammer How do I know this is going to end badly? Kid goes back to shop and returns with tow truck Drag dead Intrepid to shop, it is now 5pm on a Friday night Shop can’t look at car until Monday, leave dead car and get rental car Very expensive rental car and it’s still hotter than the hubs of Hell Start to drive back through mountains to Calgary, Crossing the new very high bridge by Golden admiring the view Until the damn engine light comes on in the older Neon rental car Many non repeatable phrases; we decide to drive until it dies Still hotter than the hubs of Hell, by the way I feel like I have been ridden hard and put away wet Frustrated husband, cranky wife; Are we having fun yet? Rental Neon actually makes it Calgary Costs me $700.00 to find out that the Intrepid is really dead Husband returns to Revelstoke to drag the body home I would question why, but frankly I don’t care anymore So why did we decide to drive through the Okanagan? Remind me why it seemed like a good idea at the time. See more
