Received an email from my BIA (good for my BIA) that the Town of Napanee staff have removed the timers from the big bright lights and are planning to remove th...e big bright lights themselves as early as next week because the "weather is good, stores are closed and reduced traffic" . Apparently Council will be " voting on this Tuesday during their " virtual " Town hall meeting( a week after pulling the plug in the first place ). I want to inform Greater Napanee residents that our group of stores (April's Image, Octobers Clothing Store. Napanee Carpet Warehouse and Dress For Less) as well as the majority on store front businesses continue to remain open either as essential or non-essential ( curb side pickup) and I don't appreciate the messaging or the timing of the potential removal of the Big Bright Lights, considering when you read media releases like this from CTV news. The Town ( according to my email received) did not reach out to the BIA or membership prior to removing some of the timers last week ( been off since Monday I think ) and this should have been the minimal first action step. Many hours and team work have taken place to get the lights up this year ( as every year) and I think they will offer a pleasant and safe diversion for local residents during this current lockdown. If you want to support the BIA positioning of leaving the lights on until the end of the month , please comment here, share this post and contact your Council rep's. I am extremely disappointed with this situation and personally have made my thought s known to the majority of council. YOUR DOWTOWN CORE IS STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS , ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.........

This video is something you won't find at Amazon, I live downtown and the first Saturday evening after the Big Bright Lights were turned on I was stunned to see... virtually every parking spot on Dundas Street filled and people walking up and down the block ( socially distanced of course) taking selfies, looking at the store windows and having fun. who da thunk ....eh? This holiday season will have long lasting memories for all of us and hats off to the merchants downtown ( and all merchants everywhere) who take the time create seasonal displays. It is not just about the cash register ringing in sales but the effort to entertain customers and take pride with their seasonal decor speaks volumes on how much " a sense of community" means to all shop keepers and property owners...great work by Mr. Garrow on this video....enjoy and share

There is a new videographer, picture taker "sheriff "in town and his name is Steve Garrow. Steve has been taking an interest in our downtown landscape for a whi...le and deserves a " shout out " from all who view his work. There are many people who post their great pictures of our community but Steve focuses on downtown with photos and drone video's. Another shout out to Hubert Hogel whose building is the focus of this photo. Our " old Post Office" is one of the few building landscapes that the outside world see'sfirst when they "clic" our town and I can tell you personally that if it was not for the preservation work ( and money) Hubert and his family invested to keep this building it too would have been lost years ago.......FINALLY...where else in the world would I want to be right now? ..Not many places elsewhere for me, I can assure you..... so get out and enjoy some fresh air, walk downtown, enjoy our historic buildings, big bright light show and the many small businesses downtown who have done some great work decorating their store front windows , during these challenging times...the streets have been busy after dark and I sure that trend will continue into December and beyond....appreciate where you live right now and if you can't smell the roses this winter you can at least breathe some fresh air.........KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK STEVE ..LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR POSTS EVERY DAY See more

On this , the most solemn day of the year , it is sad and very serious that we are asked to stay away from Remembrance Day services, the same day our Province a...nnounces a record number of single day Covid 19 cases. Considering how bad Covid 19 was at its initial apex back in March and April this is not such a subtle matter and we must be vigilant in keeping our guard up...( and face masks),THIS IS A WORLD WAR THAT MAY LAST FOR YEARS. Is it karma that Covid 19 broke a single day record at the same time as Remembrance Day or just a coincidence...? What ever the case be respectful of other's health and safety by controlling your own exposure .Many businesses and employees seniors and citizens with pre -exisitng conditions are hanging by a thread...our health region for whatever reason is doing exceptionally well.....mental strain? can't help you there...other than to say enjoy every sunrise, sunset and be thankful for where you live ...many more people are not as fortunate....and remember a moment of silence at 11/11/11 when we show our appreciation to those before us and with us who allow us to lead the lives we lead......things will get better.... We'd like to kick-off the weekend with a good news story we'd like to share: We'd like to do a shout out to an extremely active Town volunteer who is assisting ...with work in the Riverside Cemetery. For the past month, she has been edging cornerstones and cleaning yard waste (such as twigs and leaves). She has collected approximately 75 bags of yard waste and has kindly volunteered approximately 60 hours of her time. This amazing work is helping to beautify the cemetery and is extremely appreciated. She wanted to remain anonymous, but her work exemplifies the community devotion and dedication our volunteers have for our town. We are so thankful for our volunteers. First day on the "volunteer job front" helping put up the downtown napanee christmas lights....and no they don't just magically appear......Town staff need volu...nteer help...and as you can see it is very tedious work ( not from my end or the volunteer side the staff do the real work)....... I just help feed the lights to the town workers.....it is incredible how detailed this work is....and 20 to 40,000 twist ties alone are needed to keep the lights up......and of course take them down again....wow !......I wish I had more time and will try to do what I can but we need help.....if you have time over the next three to five weeks ( we are in the home stretch) anywhere from 7;30 am to 2;30 pm, Monday to Thursday, give Lyndsay Tee a call or text 613-561-2299 at the town hall and sign up as a big bright light show volunteer....you get to look to look important wearing a hard hat and safety vest, make some new friends on the street, and breath some fresh air for several hours ! ........ if you can't find time personally ask your family and friends....this is what community spirit is all about....please .like and share this post....mental health and well being will be important during the second wave of Covid 19, hopefully our big bright light show will put a smile on your face this fall and winter........
