As part of our 25th Anniversary celebration we would like to showcase our wonderful board of directors. Each week you will meet a different board member and hear about their favourite moments in the Nashwaak Watershed. This week we are excited to introduce new board member, Dorothy Diamond. We had a wonderful 25th Anniversary Celebration with a total of 61 attendees. Most participated online with board of directors and staff attending in person. We have a gigantic list of people to thank and don't want to miss anyone. We need your help please: who do you want to thank? Our thanks to Trites Flower Shop, President Peter Toner, CBC New Brunswick, The Daily Gleaner, Hemmings House Pictures, Remsoft , WWF-Canada, Lush Cosmetics North America, Global Conservation Solutions, Crowne Plaza Fredericton-Lord Beaverbrook....

We receive correspondence many different people who are looking for some clarity on water quality data. People wonder if it is safe to take their kids swimming or if a particular location is safe for their dog. Like our colleagues at ACAP Saint John we collaborate with Atlantic Water Network that hosts an online open-access platform that allows users to share information on the health of waterways across the region. Thanks to the The Walrus for featuring this important topic. https://atlanticdatastream.ca/

Our annual general meeting is underway!

Nashwaak Watershed Association Inc. 06.10.2020

Dr. Josh Kurek is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science and leads the Environmental Change and Aquatic Biomonitoring (ECAB) Laboratory at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. His research program focuses on understanding how freshwater ecosystems respond to anthropogenic stressors, including: legacy contaminants, plastic pollution, climate change, and land-use shifts. Much of Kurek’s interdisciplinary expertise relates to freshwater invertebrates as... bioindicators and sediments as an archive of pollution and long-term environmental change. His aquatic science research aims to recognize baseline environmental conditions and determine trajectories of ecosystem health in relation to human impacts and natural variability. Currently, Kurek leads a multi-year ECCC-funded project from the Atlantic Ecosystems Initiatives (AEI) on microplastic transport and fate within one of eastern North America’s largest and most iconic watersheds, the Saint John River watershed. This microplastics-focused project at the watershed scale is one of the first of its kind in Canada. For recreation, Kurek enjoys outdoor activities with family and considers the Maritimes one of his favorite places that he has lived. Register for this event via Eventbrite: http://ow.ly/A7dK50Cgwrf
