The National Stage Company of Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Mirella Standbridge as its Associate Scenic Designer. THE BIO Born in Africa, raised in England and now almost totally Canadian in every way, Mirella can always be found drawing, doodling or painting. From skipping classes in elementary school to draw and paint school murals, to finding a talent for drawing caricatures in high school, Mirella has always embraced new ways of adding color and desig...n to her life. Mirella attended Somerset College of Arts and Technology and achieved a National Diploma in Art and Design, specialising in graphics and illustration. Somehow Mirella ended up in the finance world, rather than the arts and continued to dabble in drawing and the arts including face painting, whilst raising her daughter. With a move from England to Calgary and then Victoria, Mirella found herself getting involved in the local community theatre world. A chance comment by her daughter to an acting coach that my mummy can draw led to an opportunity to design theatre sets. Fourteen years later, Mirella is still enamored by the theatre, the arts and the community and family it represents. Mirella is never happier than with a glue gun in one hand and paint in her hair and is thrilled to be part of this exciting new company.
