Congratulations to The Garrick Theatre, winner of a 2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award for Resilient Historic Places Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the Bonavista’s Garrick Theatre is the oldest community theatre in the province and the most active. Described as a big city venue in the heart of a small town, this historic theatre provides a venue for mainstream and independent film, live music, theatre, public lectures, and special events. One of th...e few soft-seat venues on the island that is designing and booking its own program, the Garrick is both a community and commercial building that has managed to evolve through time thanks to the optimism and commitment that is shared by staff, volunteers, sponsors, donors and patrons those who still fuel the theatre today. https://nationaltrustcanada.ca/nt-awards/garrick-theatre

Congratulations to the Senate of Canada Building, winner of a 2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award for Transformative Projects. Originally Ottawa’s central train station and then a government conference centre, this downtown landmark was transformed to house the Senate of Canada - Sénat du Canada during Centre Block’s closure. The ambitious project revitalized a neglected historic resource, not only to advance the long-term goals of the Parliamentary Precinct, but ...also to contribute to the life of the city core. Reimagined, restored, and accessible to the public for the first time in 50 years, the building now boasts dramatic new spaces, upgraded infrastructure, and a noble palette of materials and finishes. Congratulations to Montgomery’s Inn Museum Restoration, winner of a 2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award for Transformative Projects. This project demonstrates how historic museums can adapt to become even more vibrant gathering places in the service of their communities. The project’s staged construction allowed the museum to continue to operate normally while integrating the restoration work into tours, using it to enhance the Inn’s discovery narrative. While r...especting the large historical spaces, the project successfully increased the inn’s spatial transparency, accessibility, and flexibility. Period spaces can now easily be transformed into a gathering place or farmers market, aided by a new lighting system. https://youtu.be/lS5xA4qR5cw https://nationaltrustcanada.ca//montgomerys-inn-museum-res Toronto's Historic Sites (operated by the City of Toronto)

Congratulations to B2 Lofts, winner of a 2020 Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award for Transformative Projects. Inspired by the region’s centuries-old tradition of shipbuilding, the B2 Lofts is a mixed-use, urban infill development in the heart of Lunenburg UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic District. The project consisted of the renovation of an existing historic building and an adjacent new building. It includes two street-level commercial spaces, with ...six loft style apartments above. The design of this through-block project was informed by a deep understanding of the Atlantic region’s vernacular traditions and a careful integration within the context of the existing historic buildings. https://youtu.be/0N6ZBHUBYK0 https://nationaltrustcanada.ca/nt-awards/b2-lofts MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects Limited Ecclesiastical Insurance Office plc Town of Lunenburg

On #RemembranceDay we're sharing a story of Canadian armouries, built symbols of Canada's war story. Through their authenticity and integrity, armouries stand as an imposing reminder of the sacrifices made by so many Canadians during the First World War. https://archive.nationaltrustcanada.ca//F1_2%2014-%20FINAL
